I have been looking for a FF/chart plotter for my reload.

Most of what I've seen looks pretty poor quality (small pixelated screens), or shockingly expensive.

So I've been doing some research into the Raymarine Wi-Fish - no screen, it just sends a wi-fi signal to your phone/tablet and you view things from that.

There are some great water resistant tablets in the 8-10 inch range with great quality screens for good prices (stacks of 2nd hand tablets on TradeMe).

Then download navionics onto it from app store.

So for about $750:

Wi-Fish: $329.
10.1 IPX57 rated tablet: $320 (2nd hand).
Railblaza screengrabber + port: $85.
Navionics download: $20.

I get a 10.1 FF/chart plotter with down image (and a screen resolution better than anything I've seen in a traditional FF).

Anyone thought about or done this?

I'd probably invest in some sort of clear plastic tablet protector to be extra safe - but the actual wi-fish unit would be nice and safe inside the tackle pod with the battery (so no wires poking out).

Let me know if I'm missing something or you think it's a bad idea for some reason I haven't thought of.

Cheers!

P.S. At the end of the day you can pop off the tablet and use it as normal around the house :y:
