Is there an easy way to charge a fish finder battery in the car while travelling? We are doing a 2 week South Island road trip over the holidays and will have 2 ff batteries to keep charging up. I have a small 150w inverter that plugs into the lighter socket and a low output trickle charger, but seems crazy to be going from 12v to 240v and back to 12v again! But I suspect I need to deliver more than 12v to effectively charge the ff batteries.
Any bright ideas?

First thing to do would be to have a passenger test the cars DC socket output while driving. Unless regulated it should be over 13v a few minutes after start-up

Then consider something like this

If the socket produces 13+v is it then ok to connect direct to the ff battery? or do I still need the DC-DC charger?

I would use a charger as an SLA needs to be charged in specific way with current regulated to different amps at different stages of the process. BTW I'm not saying that charger is a good one, just linked as an example f the type of charger required.

I see it needs at least 12.8v

Looks like it'll be easier to stick with my little inverter plus trickle charger :)
