I would appreciate some suggestions for a good compact FF-Plotter combo for the new yak.

As the picture shows I have a narrow longitudinal shelf in the cockpit for a mounting point.

For that reason I would like a unit with: -
- Up to 5 inch screensize; and
- A central base-mount (not gimbal mounted).

I would consider side-scan units if available in that size range.

You can also see at the back of the yak two screws intended to hold a rudder. I don't plan to install a rudder so I could mount the transducer there. Otherwise it would be an internal mount.

I haven't really progressed this. I can't paddle until January due to recent surgery so no rush.

Only early days for me with my Garmin Striker 5dv, used it twice, happy with it . Not a chartplotter but a tracker, sub $500, :)

Lowrance Hook 4, nice and compact, f/f, charts with downscan/chirp, retail around $450 - 500. My mate has one and is very happy with it. You can scroll thru your sounder history and mark gps spots from it which is pretty cool.
