Hi all, thought id introduce myself to you all, I am absolutely new to kayak fishing & never ventured out to sea yet. Think I will wait till summer/calmer seas prevail.I live in Patea & row on the river just for the exercise & occasional sorties up on the dam.Not too familiar with ideal yak launching beaches down here, but i will cross the pates bar off the list!! :$

Up Ohawe way is a nice easy launch and can be good fishing. Be careful down Patea can get pretty gnarly but I am sure in the right conditions would be ok and awesome fishing I have heard.

Welcome! I've always been tempted to get off Patea. Blue cod country! Wonder if you could launch off the beach, RHS of the bar??

Hope to meet you all some where on the water & yes to the thought of launching off the RHS of the bar. Another place i have seen that looks OK is Kai Iwi beach. But i need to get my safety gear ie radio, flares? etc b4 i head out.I have a huge respect for the ocean!!
