Hey guys,

Just wondering where a nice spot would be for a family campervan holiday? Have done Paihia and Whatuwhiwhi, so looking for something else.

Yes, will be taking the family and yes, will be taking the yak. I hope to fish every day.

Was thinking Matauri Bay or something? I used to camp up there as a kid - what's it like now?

Any other spots worth staying?? And yeah, needs to be good fishing!

Cheers

Guy I work with stays at Rawhiti every year. Either he is banned from everywhere else or it is a good spot.
Simple is as simple does.

If you have done Whatuwhiwhi you must have also done Matai Bay and the DOC sites, right???

What about Whananaki North and the DOC site there? Great for all the family

Cheers

Yep spirits is awesome and there's also taupotupotu bay (sorry about spelling) and a there's a campground at Rarawa beach as well - great fishing off all three places and a great place to take the family! I have done a trip off Rarawa since I've been on here - you might have seen the report...

Rawhiti looks good. While I've been to the BOI, I've never fished there :)

Fished Matai once, but no DOC sites. Would like to stay somewhere relatively nice so the family are taken care of while I'm fishing :P

Not sure when mate as I haven't booked anything. Checking Bite Times for November and will watch the weather. Can take off with fairly short notice. It's my parents campervan (not a big one), and NZMCA?? not sure...

Will check it out.

Thanks for the tips guys - a few good options there :). It's a shame the Mrs doesn't want to go up to Whatuwhiwhi again, as Matai and I had a disagreement last time, and I want to show it whos boss :P

Living in Keri we have always seem to have gone North for holidays & trips...
Til last couple of years started exploring the coast from Tut north.
The Whananaki area is really worth while.
The private farm camp ground ( if still there ) has a really sheltered ground & a very gentle beach considering it is basically ocean...on the other side an estuary.
The Doc camp ground a little further on has very kid friendly beach & bay.
Recommend this place for something different.
Always seems a bit of a hike from the main highway.
Happy camping.
