Hi. Just moved to Ngunguru from the UK. Not done a huge amount of fishing before but keen as to get into kayak fishing. Bought all the gear but got very little idea so far!! If anyone is heading out I would be really keen to come along and pick up some tips and share a few beers! Cheers. Barney

Welcome to the forum (and our little South Pacific Nuclear Free Antipodean hideaway).
Some nice fishing around GunGuru.

There's a couple of guys around Toots who will no doubt make themselves known to you shortly :y:

Hi Barney, yep as wet ass said, good to meet you on Weds night. Even thought the Northland Kayak Fishing Club has (at the moment) one club fishing trip per month many individual members go out either solo or get on this forum and see if others also want to. I'm of to Kai Iwi again this weekend chasing some really plump rainbow trout in the yak. If you have some FW kit theres room on the lake if you want to join in. PM me for details.

Cheers

Welcome Barney, have yet to fish around Ngunguru but always keen to try. Whenever you feel like a fish post a new topic under this Northern Region and there will always be someone willing to come along.

I managed to swing a bach up there in Jan and Feb 2010 when I was working at Whangarei hospital and it's one of my favourite places now...

Cheers for all the replies guys!! Great to feel so welcomed!! Can't wait to get into it properly. So far had a couple of trips out in the bays around tutukaka block road. Had a couple of bites but no fish to speak of. Didn't fall out and didn't get into any monumental tangles so pretty happy overall! Sadly I am working this weekend Karl so not around for a fresh water fish. Is the club trip still on for mcgregors bay the weekend after? I am around during the day for the first few days of next week as I am on night shifts so if anyone is about and fancies going out then give me a shout! Cheers, Barney

Wednesday's weather is not looking too good (though the swell this week is fantastically low) forecast high knot winds on the Wednesday. This coming weekend should be good for Taiharuru though.
pm me Barney and we'll decide weather Wednesday will still be any good.

You're in a great spot up there. Whip around the corner to Matapouri, nice fishing and take some dive gear with you 'cause it's pretty scenic too.
