My roster is looking good for next weekend. PM Thurs with Fir, Sat & Sun off with Mon as a Night. So yep I'm in. I may even head up there on Fri if there's a cabin there. Hope the weather plays ball.

Hi, just doing some recon and planning to make the trip up. Which weather chart do most of you local lads use for that area?

So far this one has been on the money: http://www.marineweather.co.nz/forecast ... arei-coast
But check http://metservice.com/marine/recreation ... of-islands as well.
On Weather Map http://www.weathermap.co.nz/boating/new ... whangamumu & http://www.weathermap.co.nz/boating/new ... miwhangata would be the closest.

Had a query re camp grounds at Bland Bay. Had just rung Bland Bay Motor Camp today (see http://www.nzcamping.co.nz/camp.php?id=41" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ). No Cabins or Caravans, just power sites for Caravans (bring ya own) or tents. $15 per day. Not keen for the tent this time of year, so looks like I'll have ta do the trip from home and back unless there is a cheap Motel or Cabin near by. Anyone else here know of cheap Accommodation around there?
Doug

Forecasting for this area: the ones that seem best to me for this area are Swellmap for the swell and wind, MetVUW for the rain.

Patch asked me to find about the Bland Bay campground next door to the DoC area where we launch from. There will definitely be campervan/tent spaces available.

It seems there are an ablutions block and a kitchen/cookhouse block, but they're pretty basic.

Then again, how elaborate do you want to be? You're on kayaks, FFS.

Ah, yes; fishfinders (sidelocating, even), GPSs, gaffs, nets, polarising sunnies, radios, catch bags/bins, headlights, fish stringers, drogues, electric drives, rudders, multiple rod holders...Sorry, I'd forgotten :P .

What ya mean Shite. Weather forecast for Sat & Sun looking the best we'll get this Week. 1m or less swell is not bad for this time of year & 12-14Knot W winds on the Eastcoast is not too bad ether.
