Presume youre staying at the Holiday Park ??

If so, drive out the gate and turn right, follow the road along the estaury fron and head over the hill....you'll come to a DOC camp with a relatively nice beach..faces north..you can launch there..

If thats no good, go past there and the road turns to metal....follow that and you come across another couple of beaches that might prove good....

Anywhere out from there can prove to be pretty good.....after all, the overall winning fish from the Beach and Boat was caught from a kayak at Whananaki last year !

I'm planning to be over the hill at the doc campground. Booked in but working trough logistics of getting tent, kayak and kids up and back within a short window. Not likely to find a huge window for fishing but may see you out on the water. Lots of reefy looking territory on google maps so assume staying in tight might be useful. Any other tips would be appreciated though...?

if the surf is "up", launching at either end of the beach is best....head straight out, or round to the right.....If you feel real adventuous, go round to the right and head to Lizzie Reef..that can be quite good

I was there over xmas. Good snapper holding in 20m straight out past the island. Kings being caught in the bay on liveies. Find the mackerel schools and the kings will come along. This is Otamure bay.

I'm heading up there tomorrow camping for a week with the family. Might see you out there. Is it worth taking the fish finder? Am new to kayak fishing and haven't used one before, I've got limited access to power points to recharge the battery.

Was at Barrons last week. Easiest launch is from Kings riverside at the camp. You an drive onto the beach most tides. Was a heap of king is being caught on a area of foul just out the entrance but they were only taking lives. Heaps a kahawai for that too.

Had a couple snap fishes there, bit further out over more foul, hard fishing but got better as week went on so with all the bait fish around they may be on the way in. Also found blue water out on the 30 m line and caught a few out that way too.

Hmm my caravan is out there still, maybe should be heading out for the weekend :?:
