Anyone know any decent places to fish up Opononi ways? Member of the whanau has just bought a small bach up there so will be taking the kayak up from time to time. Brothers had a go surfcasting up there already and landed a couple small snapper(non-keepers).

Will do some exploring myself of course but thought id ask around for any good places to start.

Cheers in advance

I'll ask a mate of mine who has spent a bit of time up there. ... But I've got a feeling my mate could be your brother Evan....:-)

It is a small world considering you and I went to school together haha,
I just asked evan . his reply was ............ I just fish the mouth of the harbour. Off the massive rocks.. I see boats out there drifting on the incoming tide.. but cant garrenty you will catch anything.. only been there twice. Was all under sized snapper"
Will have to catch up for a drink next time your around mangawhai way.

Yep around the harbour entrance is good but watch the currents it fair rips around there and I wouldn't even consider being there on an out going tide , another spot that's ok is out fr the fire station, try to find the channel edge
