It's great fun.

George1 and me often cruise the estuary in Raglan for flounder.

Check out HLD's thread on high intensity flounder light.

I've found most sucess at high tide only about knee deep but you need very clear water (i.e don't waste your time after it's been raining) and even the ripple on the surface cause by 10 Kn winds can screw things up.

You won't need the net, just light and spear. Generally don't need to paddle either - just go with the flow.

You'll need a triple barb spear as you can't bend down to grab the flattie when on the yak. They'll tend to slide off a single.

Pukehina estuary holds a few flounder.. I dont kno any other spots in bop where you could find them.. Dark, shallow, clear water and minimal wind is the best mix for getting them.

Low tide, rising. Work the edges of the channels inwards over the flats as the water spills across them. Aim to stay in 6 - 18" of water. I pole myself along using the spear.

I read an article today about a bloke down south who has been using SB to catch flounder.
