I spoke to council and they said it could be quite some time as the roads got washed away pretty bad. You can still leave from kawakawa bay and land on the beach for a rest break tho

I reckon they should have done the pine removal and natuve planting in stages. Tgey cut everything down and the only thing stabilising the hills were tiny baby native trees.

Update From Wayne(Senior Ranger Recreation - Southern Regional Parks)
>>>

Hi all - I know you are all eager to access Waitawa Regional Park, so here is the latest update:

TEMPORARY ACCESS RESTRICTIONS

Auckland Council are working to fully re-open Waitawa Regional Park this weekend, however the slips that occurred on the main roads unsafe for vehicle access to Mataitai Bay.
The following temporary restrictions will be in place:
Access to Mataitai Bay will be available by a 10 - 15 minute walk down the walking track around the slip area to the main beach.
Following geotechnical advice, no public access will be permitted through the cutting to the wharf due to safety concerns of the slip. Council is working to clear this slip as soon as possible.
No pedestrian access is permitted on or over Koherurahi pa to access the wharf. Please be aware that there are slips on the pa, and tidal conditions will affect access around the coastline to the wharf.

Limited parking will be available in the following car parks
Hauraki car park
Mountain bike (MTB) car park
Magazine car park
Tikapa Moana car park

IMPORTANT:
There will be NO VEHICLE ACCESS past Hauraki car park.
Access to the beach is for pedestrians and cyclists using the tracks only.
Vehicles over 5m and campervans are not permitted past the Hoi Hoi (horse) car park.
Further temporary restrictions may occur during the remedial earthworks stage.
For further enquiries please contact Auckland council on 09 301 0101
Cheers
Wayne (Senior Ranger Recreation - Southern Regional Parks)
