Hi all, this is not kayaking but it does show that the snapper are back on the northern Kapiti Coast, and certainly able to be caught from fizz boats off Otaki.

On Saturday 29th Oct the Otaki Boating Club held their first run for this year off the beach at Otaki - about 10 boats from 10am to 3pm. I got down to see the weigh in and they were all very excited. Most had a few snapper, kahawai and the very occasional gurnard, but there were some very good catches as well - photos posted below.

All were caught in about 20 to 25 metres of water off the north end of Otaki and off Waikawa Beach - all using fresh baits and lots of burley.

The best snapper was 8.8 kg, :o followed by 8.0 kg, and best gurnard about 1.4 kg and many KY at about 2KG or so.

The photos give some ideas.

Time to get paddling!!
