OK - looks like lots of Kapiti people here so how about a group get together? Just to kick things off here are some suggestions....

1. Simply get out on the water for a fish and if the weathers too stinky we can slob out at our place for a BBQ.

2. Afternoon fishing followed by bbq...

3. A picnic at the beach giving surf playing / fishing depending upon weather? (Raumati Beach or north end of QE2)

4. I can probably con (ie bribe, threaten, coerce) a kayak instructor into a skills session a bit down the track if anyone is keen - god knows I could do with some more skills

My cell is 027 249 9959 (note - I have crap cell reception at home, use the landline)

Home is 04 904 9710 (ask for Paul if feckless daughter answers)

Work is 04 381 6241

Happy to get up stupidly early sat morning (Pukerau Bay?) or Wellington anniversary weekend is coming up - hows that?

I am keen - have a few reasonably clear weekends coming up so will fit in with whatever sat or sun suits the rest of you guys.

Went for a fish (or more accurately a paddle) this morning in front of the Raumati pool and there was four others yaks out in the area. Total catch from us all seemed to be a sole gurnard.

Must be enough of us to get five or six together soon.

Given the approaching cyclone and the current shitty weather - I doubt ll go out at 4:30 unless there is a great improvement.

Hi Guys, I mostly post on another forum but saw your posts about getting together for a Kapiti/(Horo) bbq/fish. I'd be keen to join in. Live in Levin and work in Waikanae. Happy to come down and meet up. Bbq would be a good way to meet and plan some things face to face I think. There are others on the other forum who might want to come too. Ray.

Sounds good.

I have to say I cant remember a summer at Kapiti when I've done less kayaking. The weekends have been rather dodgy to say the least. This weekends not looking too much better either.... This Friday evening for a fish could be the go or sat morning very early. It might be raining but hey - you will most likely be wet anyway.

ANYWAY - Looking at the tide chart - weekend of the 19th / 20th feb looks like a whopper tide, peaking just before lunch so hows this for a plan?

Meet at Raumati South slipway, rigged, ready to fish @9am.

There is good fishing 800m out so only a short paddle if you are worried. Warriors can chase the horizon if they are brave enough. Fish 9:30 through to 12 (ish) and then BBQ lunch / clean up at our place (5min drive from the ramp) partners / kids welcome etc. We have some off street parking, area for a wash down and an outside shower (hot water) for clean up.

Alternate plans

If we are in a sou-west pattern - meet at Pukerau Bay - decision posted here night before.
If the weathers shite or its too rough for yaking BBQ is still on (we could try a surf cast if anyones keen)

We will donate a small prize for the best fish caught.
Please bring something for the BBQ (its just lunch - dont go nuts)
Please bring something to drink (please dont drink n drive) if required.
Stuff can be dropped of at our place prior to kayaking.

Let me know if anyone keen to join Vicki and myself?

Hi Cam - decide closer to the day but I'd suggest its a sat the 19th with the 20th as a reserve day in case of bad weather.

Those poofy aucklanders might find that odd but no sheltered waters here lads - its straight into the big blue and sometimes its in a real fug off mood...

I reckon we can aim to launch as many as we can as a social event and get together.... The launch spot is 200m from a really good beach for the family and if its a super nice day I'd recommend it to anyone...

I haven't fished Raumati/Pram but have done ok at Waikanae/Peka/Otaki. If you want to try Waikanae on the 19th/20th, happy to meet there and head out to where we go. I've told some other Kapiti guys I know about it too so hopefully we get a good turnout if the weather is ok. Otherwise the bbq lunch will be a good way to meet up. Thanks for getting the ball rolling Paul!

Hi Guys

I am definitely in and either site is fine by me - we will be living at Otaki Beach from mid April so all contacts and information - especially where to go to and fishing off the beach - will be very welcome.
