Got the nod from the misses to go out and get a feed on sat morning , pulled up at Makara beach just before 6 and it was blowing it's a$$ off and it was cold. walked down to the shore and cranked the head lamp on full and it sure did look sloppy. Decided to pull the pin and shoot into the city for a quick fish with the aim of getting something for the smoker as my two year old loves smoked fish cakes and something else to keep the misses happy.
Went home with a few carrots and a handful of Kahawai for the smoker , The Welly wind and my car door dealt to the Veritas which really got me in a good mood :@ home by 11am everyone happy as larry ....almost everyone.

got the call friday from Dan to say he was heading out but unfortunatly i had other commitments sat morning.
Finaly after 3 months our work social club had a weather window to head out with Jono from Cook Strait fishing charters . man what a day.
headed out at 7am. got to the first spot about 8 am and were into the fish on the first drop.... many many Bluenose most in the 5-15kg range but 1 topped out at 21kg. also a huge amount of Hoki. we stopped fishing after about 90 mins when all we were getting was Hoki and moved off to try another spot. and that was the day done with. no more than scraps for the rest of the day. suffice to say we all went home with (i guesstimated) 10kg of fillets each. i did the rounds that night and next morning distributing the fish to family and friends and still had enough to feed my family of 5 for at least 7 meals. 3 new species for me. Bluenose, Hoki and Rays Bream.

Nice! I went out on Friday afternoon for a couple hours in Pukerua bay. Lots of birds and kahawai schooling around. Took home a couple and a gurnard :) Pleased I didn't wait until Saturday as it wouldn't have been very comfortable out there then! One other yak out fishing, he caught a nice snapper so perhaps there's still some around?

Hey Beast.

That was me (Mitch) you met in the water. Nice to meet you! Saw your post come up in my feed and thought I'd better respond. The snapper was 51 cm's all up, which I was stoked with. Beaut day out.

Yeah bro can't beat a Welly breeze it's so refreshing :P , Yep Boom rock is a good spot have done more spearfishing there to be honest. I was going to paddle there in the weekend for a fish and a splash. Mate the Veritas is / was the bomb I will more than likely get another one before I come up to Auckland next week.

KF yeah I'm hooked on the smaller / lighter stuff after using the twinpower and offshore set up I've pretty much started replacing my gear.

yeah... im looking at dropping all my gear to at most 4kg rods with 2 or 4kg line. but im looking at that Veritas 1-3 kg with a shimano reel and spooling with 1kg line. will probably keep a strayline set that runs 20lb but that would be it
