The B'day fairy gave me a Saragosa 20,000_SW. I've spooled it with 80lb rainbow braid.

It will be used as a top water spinning rig with a 12kg or 15kg rod.

I'm going to put a flouro leader on it. I'll use an FG knot so the leader will easily wind on.

What weight flouro should I go for?

Bump, anyone?

I thought this would be an easy question for someone to answer.

Ya lost me at 80lb braid mainline. :o For spinning. :o From a yak. :o That's more than any yak leader I've ever tried let alone mainline. Keen to learn though so hopefully others answer you.

In my humble opinion, I'd go for a 25 Kg leader, this, in my head, would allow a large kingi or medium Tuna to tow a 'yak around for a few hours, the 80lb braid is not going to break.

And a Mako or a Marlin might snap a 25Kg leader, which would be a good thing, so as to not have to cut your line to save your rod.

Boat and yak. Less drag in use on the yak :y: Found a roll of 50lb flouro in the boat at the weekend so I'll go with that.

I worry about snagging up with heavy gear on the yak as it might not be physically possible to break it. Sure you can cut the line, but I'd rather not leave metres of braid in the water, plus there is the cost aspect. You may stand a chance with 50lb leader, especially if your knots aren't up to much :D

That's a risk, although the yak-fishing I plan to use this for will be top water, so the likelihood is minimal.

Perhaps I would be better with a 30lb leader? I have a spool of that too.

My original plan was 50lb braid and 30lb leader, but the tackle store only had bulk rainbow braid in 80lb, and the reel would have taken two spools of 50lb, which was expensive and I didn't want a join in the braid.

sweet im using 40 or 60lb on 20lb braid for the top water or live baiting from yak.
be keen on a tuna chasing boat trip sometime......  but with the bay full of mud maybe nxt year
going to have to yak out in couple of weeks for my sanity(F$#k my health) probably a short paddle off kina or kaiteri/ngaio with lures n jigs.
sticking with supple trace as easier to tie knots....

I'd be happy to join you for an 'invalids' trip.

Or if you want to go out in my boat we could make that work too. Lots of Kingi's at the spat farm I hear.
