Looking for recommendation for a base layer top that's easy on the skin. I've previously had a rooster hot top and a sharkskin chill proof vest.

Both tend to take skin off in the armpit area if I do longer paddles.

So I'm looking for something that doesn't have seams/hems/etc in this area.

I've had similar issues but have been using Adrenaline 2P base layer tops for the last few years with excellent results. Have a look at:

x 2 Yep definitely does the job for me, good price and quality I reckon!! without the overheating which I got wearing the sharkskin tops.

Thanks both.

I have had an adrenalin 2P top I was really happy with but I never thought to try it as a base layer.

Have you tried the Adrenalin base layer thermo top? Looks like they have deliberately designed it to keep seams away from the underarm.

The Thermo Top is plush lined 1mm neoprene rather than 2P poly/lycra laminate, and as such I find I sweat way too much. The 2P tops use the same cut to move the seams out from under your arms and is the reason I went to them.

Thanks I'll use these as the base and find something else for Layer 2.

Air/sea temp in Tasman Bay is about 10*C at the moment. Brrr

While it may not be good long term for the fabric but I use a dollop of Vaseline under each arm with a Sharkskin top. While i'm at it I liberally smear my butt crack and nads too, not because of chaffe but because it just feels so damn good!

I use 3B ointment for walking-induced chafing.

Never thought of using it for paddling.

Sharkskin really do need to go back to design school and learn about comfortable placement of seams in active wear.

Here's a different idea, I wear a steamer wetsuit because I don't like being cold, I know others wouldn't but I wear Swazi microfleece underneath... Worth a try?

I have a steamer (WH cheapie) it loves skin. I suspect you get what you pay for, but if I'm going snorkelling I open to the waist while paddling.
