Hi Everyone,

Ok things are changing a little this month, we've ran the old format for over five years so it's time for a change, two in fact :y:

Firstly we are moving away from the public vote to a judging panel, the panel will be made up of the sponsors, the moderators, and myself. This change is to try and remove any swaying of the votes by popularity of the angler.

The second change is also quite dramatic, we are dropping the requirement of the need to catch a fish to enter, we are aware that depending on the month, the weather, or your physical location, that not everyone is in a position to catch that "monster" fish to out fish everyone else. There are some anglers who given where they fish have no ability to catch a 20lb Snapper but they can haul in that beast of a Blue Cod, or may be your may be you are ecstatic about your first Gurnard from the kayak even if it's barely legal you did it and you are proud of it - and so you should be! As I said you don't even need to land a fish, just enter the photo you took of that sunrise / sunset / perfect oily sea / birds working / kayaks lined up on the beach / what ever it is that gives you the pleasure from kayak fishing and share it with the rest of the community :y:

The Rules:

Competition Dates: May 1st to May 31st

1. Only one entry per member

2. Multiple entries are allowed over the month but only your last entry will be put into the pool for judging, this means that the Snapper you catch on the 5th you put up, then on the 20th you catch a bigger Snapper and you post that, and on the 30th you manage to catch a bigger one still, the panel will only judge your entry from the 30th.

All entries should include any or all of the following information (along with a picture)

Name / Username of Angler:
Fish Type:
Length:
Date/Time of Capture/Photo:
Location of Capture/Photo:
Type of Lure/Bait used:
Comments: (optional)

The judging panel is made up of the sponsors, KFNZ moderators, and KFNZ owner Mental.

The prize for the best fish this month is again a great prize from K-Labs
The runner up will receive a selection of goodies from Top Catch Whangarei

These are excellent prizes, so lets show our support and lets see how many entries we can put in between us this month, remember it's not always size that counts!

Good luck everyone!

EDIT BY MENTAL: Yes this is a fish caught in April, Ado was posting his entry as I was creating the poll for the April comp hence he was missed from the April poll so I have rolled the entry over to the May comp

Entering to support the competition and sponsors, not because I think the fish is competition worthy compared to the other efforts :envy:

Username: Ado
Fish: Snapper
Length: Close to 50cm - forgot to measure
Date/Time of Capture: 27th April about 8am
Location: Just off Mairangi Bay
Type of Bait: Stray-lined Mullet using Baitrunner 4000d paired with K-labs rod :inlove:
Comments: My best effort off the yak so far, and not bad for fishing just off the local beach, which is the only place I've fished on the yak so far!!

Fish Type:Schhhhnappers
Length:32-49cm
Date/Time of Capture/Photo: 3 May from 7am-9:30am (Photo is post-production quality)
Location of Capture/Photo: NN (NOT in destins fishery, I skirted that areas for obvious reaons)
Type of Lure/Bait used:(Z-Man pink grub, Z-Man new penny grub - all on a lightbulb)
Comments: (optional) This is the real reason for the entry... I caught more fish than Rusty  ! It's a first, whenever I go out with that bugger he either catches more fish than me, and/or bigger fish than me. I can haul up a good monster and after a little whooping  he hauls one up bigger :swear: . I've even been known to say in jest (while paddling toward the beach) "theres a big fish down there Rusty", at which point he drops lure and hauls up another :headbang: !!

Comments: Hard days fishing for myself, Waikato Yakka and Kingfish Killer. This little fella went on 3 blazing runs, and they were fast runs not the usual Shark 'I'm going this way, try and keep up' kinda fight, which had me thinking I had a reasonable Kingi on. 10 mins or so later up pops this little fella. Great fight and released at the side of the yak. First Shark from the Yak, so pretty stoked with that!
Cheers, JJ

I've been hunting for a decent size snapper for years and the far north delivered this beauty! Trashed my soft bait reel in the process but what a great fight!
