Hi All,

Standard rules apply, please see the competition page

Competition Dates: January 1st to January 31st

1. Only one fish per entry

2. Multiple entries are allowed over the month but only your last entry will be put into the pool for voting, this means that the Snapper you catch on the 5th you put up, then on the 20th you catch a bigger Snapper and you post that, and on the 30th you manage to catch a bigger one still, the poll will only contain your entry from the 30th.

All entries should include the following information (along with a picture of the fish)

Name / Username of Angler:
Fish Type:
Length:
Date/Time of Capture:
Location of Capture:
Type of Lure/Bait used:
Comments: (optional)

The prize for the best fish this month is again a great prize from K-Labs: this month’s prize>>> And it's pretty special as it's one of their NEW rods!
The runner up will receive a selection of goodies from Top Catch Whangarei

These are excellent prizes again this month, so lets show our support and lets see how many entries we can put in between us this month, remember it's not always size that counts, it's a public vote for the best fish, the biggest fish doesn't always win!

Good luck everyone!

Ok let me get this month started!

Name / Username of Angler: Ali/ YakSolo
Fish Type: Moocher
Length: 70 cm - 14 lbs
Date/Time of Capture: 1/1/2013 ---- 5 pm
Location of Capture: Houhora heads
Type of Lure/Bait used: Chomp 7" Brown grub
Comments: My first fish of the year and the new PB, for what is worth its not easy fishing when leatherjacks destroy all your SBs, thankfully they were not too interested on the Chomp and left it intact for the northland moocher to come and feed 10 people on the first day of 2013. :$

Caught this wee beauty off the back of the MV Te Wairoa during our recent adventure - it takes a certain level of skill (not alot), experience (green) and even team work (yeah right) to land a monster of the deep like this...

Name / Username of Angler: Kiwiladbrad (KLB)
Fish Type: Gutted Snapper (a relation of the common Snapper)
Length: Easy 65cm + (just another average Mokes monster)
Date/Time of Capture: 11th Jan 2013
Location of Capture: Somewhere between the Barrier and Coro
Type of Lure/Bait used: Williamson Lure (but Im really the one who took the bait)
Comments: F.ck you Kev... haha!

Fish Type: Kingfish
Length: bigger than I've caught before
Date/Time of Capture: 2nd Jan
Location of Capture: Mayor Is
Type of Lure/Bait used: Zest jig (brand new out of the pack)
Comments: Ok, not off the yak but wanted to share this anyway. Did land a 10kg 93cm version, but the one that did this was much larger. Was an awesome fight for about 5 mins till the hook snapped. Was during the Whanga new years comp, and there was a min size of 1m. None were weighed in, and so this hook cost me like $1k in prizes :swear:. I have now gone to making my own assist hooks that wont break like this.

Username: Mrs Destin
Fish Type: Snapper
Length: 61cm (3.8kg)
Date/Time of Capture: 12 Jan 2013 / 11:53
Location of Capture: 300m west off the cow, Coromandel
Type of Lure/Bait used: Z-man new Penny grub
Comments: Mrs Destin surprises me with a kayak fishing trip to the Coromandel and then gives me a leason in how to catch fish. This one is her PB and takes her number of snapper caught to be more than the number of marlin caught for the first time.

I know there have been lots of very nice fish caught already this month but the title of "Top kayak fisherwoman for Jan" will sit nicely beside her Lizard Island Marlin trophy! And it will be used against me for many years to come.
