No better still ring the office of the offending boat and speak to the manager and tell them what there vessels are up to and ask for something to be done about.

KK re Whakatane bar, conditions can dictate once you are commited there is no turning back and you need to hold yr line, so if a Kayak is that close to the bar I would question if he has made the right decision dunno if its the same these days but boaties used to whinge about surfers using the break at the the heads, funny as i can remember more than once surfers helping boaties who had come to grief on the bar...
Where we fish or in the 2 cases i mentioned where Ben always fishes is nowhere near the bar entrance , you would have to be a flameing idiot to fish near that bar . Im talking around the front of Kohi Point out to sea 500 m .

Yer fair enough then mate... :y:

This ones my fault ,I had been drifting out toward Centre island in Mercury Bay dragging a softbait out the back, about 13 metres deep. Decided to head home and forgot to pull it in  . boat passed close behind me flat out, in about 3 seconds 260 m of fireline and backing looked like this , I managed to get my knife out of its holder and cut it , just. :whew:

And that's your fault, why?

If you had 13m out (or even 30), the boat was still in the wrong...

(How are the drag washers  )

As an operator of a 36ft vessel, I can advise the BEST thing for any kayaker to be visible is to wear a HI-VIS Hat.
Your head is the highest part of your kayak bar a kayak flag, which can be annoying and nowhere as visible as your head with a high vis hat on, especially if the angle happens to be the same as an approaching vessel.
One club trip at Rawhiti about 3 years ago, I was on our yacht, and found that the NKFC guys wearing their HI-Vis hats stood out like the proverbial dogs balls.
Mikes right, it don't matter how wrong these <img src="./images/smilies/emoticon-0183-swear.gif" alt=":swear:" title="Swear"> are, you're the bugger that ends up F****d up!! Be seen to be safe.
WE sell the Kalahari Hats, and the Tanami hats in Hi Vis Flouro yellow/green, and orange.
We are just about out of the Kalahari hats, but will be ordering some more as soon as our suppliers decide they have had enough time off work
These hats are very practical with neck & ear protection from the sun.
I don't believe in using the forum to plug product, but in this case I think it is a safety issue for us all.
If anyone wants further info regarding these hats, prices, or orders, drop us an email at: sportsmanschoice@xtra.co.nz
Cheers,
John.
