Every two years, millions of Pink Salmon return to Prince William Sound, gulf of Alaska. Following close behind are most of the Salmon Sharks from the North Pacific.

In 2007, My partner at Kayak Fishing Magazine Allen Sansano got the bright idea to pursue these easily located big game fish. So we went up there along with a couple other Ocean Kayak Pro buddies, Chris Mautino and Howard McKim.

We mother shipped about 4 hours south of Valdez to an island named Montague. In a gentle Bay, we found 100's of salmon sharks in the 400-500 lb range.

We all hooked up, we all landed, and we managed to release two of the four sharks caught. Two were gill hooked and became table fare. Here are a couple pix of my greatest adventure to date, my PB, and the biggest fish ever caught from a kayak.

Awesome. Never heard of the Salmon Shark; what's the best way of prep'ing them for the table?

A good dry rub, and baking. They are very mild and tasteless, also the meat is a bit watery. Not my favorite I only took 50 lbs home, and gave most of that away. The remainder of the meat I donated to soup kitchen for the indegent in Valdez.

Salmon Shark is the smallest of Mackerel Shark Family which also includes Mako and Great White. It's body is footbgall shaped like the cousins, but the mouth is proportionally smaller, and of course the teethare different. More pointy for catching fish rather than the GWS triangle razor teeth that work on us mammals.
