Here's where you get your hands dirty, so to speak. So if you like to build or customize things for the yak, this is your forum

I was just wondering if anyone had attempted to make their own rod, if so where did you get the components from and what problems did you encounter while making the rod. Thought it might be a good project to distract me from the weather and not going fishing.

I built my own surfcaster when I was about 18.
It was an absolute dog, and cast like a telegraph pole

It wasn't until later I realised there was a little more to it than just whipping rings onto any old blank...

I got the blank through my local tackle shop - I suspect it was really just a painted Russian tank radio aerial

Have a look at GoFish they seem to sell all the parts you'll need, they even sell kits containing all you'll need to build a rod...

If you can get hold of the latest issue of the NZ Fishing Coast To Coast Magazine (Issue 49) there is an article on building rods and there is an example of some most excellent craftsmanship

The rod even has some paua shell bling built into it, stunning!

Yup, this is partly where I am coming from. Also hoping to make it to suit exactly what I want but realise that there is a fair amount of technical stuff involved in a good rod :ugeek:

Thanks for your help will let you know how I get on.
