proof of life is all ive got time for today

it is definitely considerably lighter than the spec sheet says
(i'll weigh it in the next few days at the workshop)

full size wheeleez (frame & wheels) all disappear into the front hatch

the seat is a revelation

an added bonus is the ute box drops right in

expecting a bit more pace too

very pleased.

This is the one kayak that makes me consider going back to paddling without a motor or peddle system!

If that lowered seat offers the stability I need for my fat arse, I might well get one of these later in the year.

Looks great !

Interesting that the ute box fits. This size is worth doing. might check the fitting next time I'm at Rob forts.

Good to know that this ute box fits as now I have another option if I was to upgrade yak. My only concern would be the water tightness through surf launch as I think think these kayaks are open to the hull under the tackle pod?

i now appreciate why people like track mounts so much; it took me longer to open the packet than to fit them, and the ability to loosen them off a bit and slide them fwd/aft is really useful

so today's job was to remove all the deck fittings and line that i dont need;
IMG_0630.JPG
IMG_0632.JPG
and fit black plastic filler screws to stop the saltwater corroding the threads;
IMG_0631.JPG
fullsizeoutput_628.jpeg
then fit a thread extension to the transducer mounting kit to give it enough reach to get through the hull;
IMG_0636.JPG
IMG_0638.JPG
job done:
IMG_0639.JPG
IMG_0643.JPG
I'm hoping the transducer is sitting low enough (without adding a packer) that the side imaging beam doesnt strike the hull - if it clears then it means the Trident 15 is a very easy hull to mount a Humminbird SI transducer on, literally a 5 minute job

the first time i went kayak fishing i weighed over 108Kg and realised that i would enjoy myself a lot more if i lost some weight. ive still got a way to go to hit my target of 88Kg, but I'm down to 95Kg and it makes a significant difference

nice work... and good effort on the weight loss. i am also in the rather large category so am making the effort to get rid of a few kgs. need to drop a few more than you though. my target is 90kg... started at 130 now at 126. fair way to go :lol:

im not into health fads at all and always believed that if i exercised regularly i could eat what i liked, which is a pretty sound theory until you reach 30

ive not exercised much more, but instead ive made a conscious effort to be aware of how much sugar is going in - before it was a lot, now it is less but probably still more than many people, but its been enough to chip away at the excess, losing about 1Kg/month

porridge with nothing added for breakfast is a good low sugar start to the day

my point is you can lose weight without starving yourself, just change the mix

Great thread thanks for all the updates and photos. Just wondering re your ute-box. Is it permanently attached now or is there a quick release system?

hi there

you are right, the Trident 15 is supplied with those quick release clips, but these are mounted with a pair of screws into the same brass inserts that are set elsewhere across the hull

so a small socket set or short screwdriver to take off the quick release clips and then screw on the standard strap and clasp that the Ute Box is supplied with (visible in the last image immediately above)

the second set of brass inserts are not required so you blank them off with the black plastic screws

looks very smart that yak, is that seat a new design haven't seen it or is it a custom job? looks pretty snazzy. What is under the front of the seat, some kind of spring?

here is a short clip to give you a better idea of how the seat functions

if you look closely you will see there are two scuppers at the aft end of the seat cushion

for the moment i have not put venturi plugs in them as they need to be cleaned out after every trip to ensure the short snips of line, softbait tails, scales and muck are washed out and this means unscrewing the seat to access and I'm sure its not meant to be taken on & off every trip

ive got waterproof pants on and there doesnt seem to be too much wash up the scuppers anyway - i'll see how it goes

the seat back is height adjustable, which is what i am trying to demonstrate at the end of the clip

ive added a fillet from a cut down chopping board to stop the transducer rocking around, so that's sorted:
IMG_0649.JPG
if anyone out there is into 3D printing i think there is a ready market for making these kind of fillets for each of the major hulls and transducers as they are a time consuming pain in the butt to fashion by hand. anyone? id happily pay.
