After much research, initially just looking for sit on without a rudder that handled better than OK Tetra, which despite it's size (only 12 foot) is appalling in any significant side wind/swell. Having a sit in which has a skeg, I was attracted by Islay 14 Sit On from Venture kayaks in the UK. Then I noticed it could be had with a sail set up, and some interesting videos of it action, which seemed interesting.

Initially looked at importing it (having done same with sit in a couple of years ago), but that was proving difficult to arrange transport, then lucked upon this outfit in Christchurch http://longcloudkayaks.co.nz/Kayaks-for ... Sit-on-Top, so several weeks later it turned up, and I've been running it for the last month or so.

Here's a few photos of it in action, and on the beach at Flaxmill Bay, it's got fittings for a couple of rods, but not yet used it with sail setup - believe me with sail and trolling would be a tad involved! I'd initially thought the sail would be useful with only wind behind, but it is also possible to some form of tacking and get decent speed that way, that's from someone with zero sailing experience.

Hi Lloyd,

How are you getting on with your Flat Earth sail?

How quickly can you get it out of the way when 'fish-on'?

How much room does it take up when not in use and is that a PITA to paddle/fish around?

Thanks.
