Hello good folks in NZ!

this forum has been inspirational to me in helping me get my Ultra 4.3 and so i wanted to share my rigging adventure with my Ultra 4.3 from across the pond at New Jersey, USA!

i do hope i am not causing any issues with forum rules for posting so many pics but...

1) Replacing Front Flush Mount Rod Holders

Intro:
i wanted the versatility of using a scotty mount instead of a fixed rod holder and i know i could have purchased a gimbal to insert but where's the fun in that... eh?
pics are self explanatory... used HDPE for the first version but will eventually change to ABS or Nylon as i find HDPE to be too soft with way too much flex.

2) Center Storage Hatch Install

Intro:
Inside the Center Hatch, seems the ledge is pretty much un-used space that i can utilize to store car keys, phones etc... without having to dig through the entire storage area... so....

Defintely no problem posting that number of pics. I do it all the time

Looks like you have all the gear for doing this DIY. I had always thought a storage hatch at that location would be a good idea.

Keep the DIY posts coming :y:

thank you all for your comments!

i'm glad i'm not the only one posting a wall of pics!

i do have a problem... i look at anything and first thing my hand reaches for is a drill... i think i have as much fun making things as i do enjoying yakking!

one thing for those owners of the ultra 4.3 or the like... unless we install the heavy rod tube in the center console, there is no "secure" way of securing our rod on the yak...
been seeing images of viking kayaks with the transparent shield on the bow... something like this may be better suited to secure the rod tips while using the bungee cords to secure the rod handle?

thoughts?

HOLY BAZOOKA Hainesy!
that is a very interesting way to go about it...

only issue i have with PVC is that it is SOOOOOOOO damn heavy!

i'm actually working on a revised lid for the 4.3... going to try something with vacuum forming...

damn youtube always getting me into trouble!

Just noticed that it looks like you have the light weight vac formed lid for the centre console on your 4.3 but still have the rubber latches from the thicker reversable lid ??

I do have the rubber latches but I'm opting to go for bungee cord and knob route...
I'm heavy for a short Asian dude... The only thing I got going for me is the lower center of gravity my belly provides... :$

Hence trying to shed weight from the yak... Ha!

well, minor update... not to the yak but to the yakker... i've trimmed the fat...

1) i've sold my Old Town Predator... nice boat but for the right user imo.
2) dropped 20 lbs as of today!

so to celebrate...
i'm looking at some south african kayaks...
damn the Evo 465, Pinnie Elite & Dorado 2 look sweet...

it is going against the Supersized BigMac trend here... but dammit, i'm loving the smaller kayaks!

Out of curiosity... got a set of Tap Plastics casting silicone as seen on youtube here.

1:1 mixing ratio, 8 fl oz per bottle is plenty for any/most xducer mounting...

due to newbie excitement of being on the water, i did not take any pics of my fishfinder screens... i'll be sure to take some on my next outing...
but one thing for sure, seamless, bubbleless installation that made my DIY fingers happy.

cheers!

Mad mike,
I'd look at art supply stores...
Can't tell you if tap plastics ships across the pond but you can try...

Good luck
