Re: Anyone kayak fishing in Canterbury?

Awesome pic! I've moved recently from Nelson to Southbridge so having to adapt from Salt to freshwater. The Rakaia Lagoon is an amazing place to paddle if you venture a little North. I've had 3 goes and seen Salmon but not yet landed one but my fishing exploits are never an indication of what is lik...

Fantastic set-up! +1 for the shed. I have 6-car garaging, and none of the vehicles are inside :tmi: :y:

Tauranga yak fishos - advice?

Hey guys, I was running a Lean Six Sigma course in Auckland this week and one of my clients, nice Welsh chappy from Tauranga - was intrigued by my screen saver (same pic as my Avatar) as he had thought about having a go at kayak fishing, but is rather cautious as he doesn't know much about fishing a...

Never ceases to amaze me the fish you catch, but hell you put in the effort and you certainly earned that one, well done!

Re: First troll up the Rakaia Lagoon

Cheers guys, I always wonder Mike, what do they know I don't!

Went out again tonight and had the entire river mouth to myself, massive salmon leaping out of the water by the kayak and all. Still couldn't get one to take a spinner but exciting all the same. Sure was spoilt in Nelson ;(

First troll up the Rakaia Lagoon

Starting to warm up a bit, thought I'd take the 4.3 for a blat. Nearly didn't bother launching as it was blowing down towards the mouth and I was a bit worried I'd having trouble getting back. Just trolled a lure (black and gold Toby), snagged a wee trout within about 2 mins but he got off yakside. ...

Re: A new chapter

Thanks Andrew, good to know :y: . I'm keen to give the lagoon a bash just for a paddle anyway, it's extremely beautiful down here but it'd be nice to bag a fish. I did read a book on fly tying, then went and bought some flies  . Like too many kiwis I hadn't really been down this part of the isl...

A new chapter

After a few months of turmoil have ended up in Southbridge, just out of Leeston. Nelson was a kayak fishing Mecca by comparison, even with my sporadic successes! I've tried surf casting without any luck so far (apart from not falling in which I guess is lucky...) but there's no way I'll be launching...

Re: Spesh Morning Palmy Spanno [___(0)-(0)___]

You always match your videos to music well Jamie :y: and the retro shots were awesome. Fantastic fish too! I fully understand but it runs a little deeper than fishing for me it's about being out there in/on the ocean - if I dont get my "fix" after a couple of weeks something starts to feel very wron...

We've all done it mate, bugger you lost some gear though.

I'd throw myself out deliberately every trip for 7 snapper

Thanks for sharing, the cock-ups are all part of the journey too :y:

Re: Good start to 2015

Looks like a great day :y: Even the camera got too hot  If that was fogging you may want to add an antifog strip at this time of the year. It was my best effort (previous was 3 snapper), yeah the 'camera' is just my old Iphone 4, and there was some smearing on the Idry I carry it in. Murf :y: ...
