Mothership your existing yak with the tinny :-)
Now that's a great idea, flat out to the Noisies, anchor up and 'yak around the pinnacles.

Like a jetski, but room for the wife and picnic, and a fully set up fishing machine to jump into, whilst she concentrates on a magazine...

Re: Old Town Predator PDL

Coming back to this again, I think I'm going to keep my current 'yak as it's fine, for what I use it for and for calm waters, my main worries are that in any sort of chop, it's wet all the time and I'm too big for it by about 5 kilos. So to solve those issues, it's lose weight for me and keep to cal...

Re: Old Town Predator PDL

Really am not trying to be 'that guy' but for the price they are asking for these sorts of weapons, you can get an inflatable with 10hp outboard. Less time paddling/peddling, more time fishing. fold it up into the back seat/boot of the car. apart from spikey things (the tubes are always multiple ch...

Old Town Predator PDL

I'm looking at changing up. Has anyone here got one of these? and what could they tell me about it, any comments welcome. I've seen Mr Flower's utubery at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRchG02dE8eA1G5e_33yhCQ And also Rob Fort's at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKg7ktdY_NBRWU79TOZnssg Not to m...

Re: Li-ion batteries and electronics question.

Thanks for that, yes I knew about dangers with Li-ion batteries, when I was charging my homemade pack, I was always there checking on it. Hand on pack, to gauge temperature, I was a chef and I can gauge temperature pretty well with my right hand. i.e. not very warm/hot? must be safe :) But since I'v...

Re: Freaky Saturday at Beachlands

I used to do a bit of diving, I've had three boat rods n reels, off the bottom of the gulf over the years, two had Penn reels that cleaned up nicely and are still working today. And also I found floating on the surface, near Channel Island a 15 ft carbon fibre surfcaster and reel with Japanese writi...

AHB 20/1

I've not had the opportunity to fish much, in the last long while, apart from a brief few hours in the Tongariro, back in August. I did get a couple of pan sized snapper, two weeks ago off Birkenhead, so today was the first serious expedition for a while. Many many many 15cm baby snapper. And one 44...

Just rock up and go fishing, with 3 blokes filming your every movement, so the Port won't talk to you :)

Re: Inflatables like the True Kit Tactician or Discovery

Yes, cartopping is the appeal of Kayaks for me. I saw one of those hobie massive small boats, that purports to be a Kayak, needs a trailer etc, too heavy for me. If I was going to go to something that needs a trailer, I'd get a 12~14 foot tinnie and outboard, you can get most places in one of those,...

Re: Li-ion batteries and electronics question.

Thanks Mac, as I've said, I don't have much formal knowledge of 'lectrics so that's good to know. And I've finally, got to the bottom of, the Battery Pack not working in the boat thing. Using a technique I got from my computer days, a binary search. This or that, 1 or 0, and so on. So after ascertai...

Re: Li-ion batteries and electronics question.

Thanks, and even with my lead acid batteries for the Kayak I charge them when I'm doing something near them so I can watch them, they get hot too. And hopefully the last update on all of this, I pulled the fuse out and it is testing OK, so something in the - Ohms = (old man with cold fingers) * (wir...

Re: Li-ion batteries and electronics question.

I promise this will be the last from me on this topic. Yer haff ta larf! So I went fishing yesterday, got two pannies, so dinner tonight will be good. When I plugged in the fish finder and the new Li-ion battery pack, there was a faint 'tst!' sound, from somewhere. No power to the fish finder then. ...

Re: The fishing in HB over the last few months

"Also wondering the identification of stripy fish?" As AndrewRawlingson says banded sea perch, or red perch, quite tasty if big enough, spiky. I caught one once that was no word of a lie, 2 cm long, point of the hook got him through the upper lip, I seriously considered, firing up a saltwater aquari...

Re: Li-ion batteries and electronics question.

Thanks Mac50.

Twospoons, I see, when this one bites the dust, I'll have a go at the 4 x parallel and then in 4 x series config and get a proper Li-ion battery charger.

Re: Li-ion batteries and electronics question.

 :) even when I was slim rugby playing and handsome young man, I was always, 90 Kg plus. I put that down to my Viking bloodlines , dense bones :) Part of this is to minimise environmental waste, as you point out , but also it appeals to me in terms of not wasting money. And lastly, I really di...

Re: Li-ion batteries and electronics question.

Thanks Mac. I see the technical issues you note, re: the individual cells. Some of the cells I am using are the 'good' ones from the Laptop battery packs I repacked. In the laptop batterie, I found that 2 of the 6 were defunct the other 4 were OK, so I've re-used them. Well, I ran the fishyfinder on...
