Re: AHB 11 Dec

... You should join us for a fish at Narrow Neck, as Mayor I'm currently lobbying for a kayak only fishing zone and also for 30 kayak only fishing days. ... I'd like to come over to Narrow Neck, if only to learn this drifting technique, perhaps after the new year. I've got Maketu in my sights for J...

Re: How to read Side Scan/view fish finders

Using sidescan to target snapper where I am in Western Australia has been very successful for years and a decent sized snapper or a school of them sticks out like dogs balls on side scan .kingfish (samson fish in my case ) are also easily seen on side scan . Frankly in WA if my side scan is not wor...

"but it was all undersized snapper." I feel your pain, I was out three times at dawn this last week, like you, all baby snapper, I used squid bait, an orange slider and a plastic, only babies were caught. I did get one large bite, but no hook up. I reckon it's the warmer water? This time last year, ...

I think that Cavallis incident is one I read about being a 7 ft mako shark ~ https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/arti ... d=12177774
Injuries but not life threatening, and he kept the Kingi !!!

Makes my Bronze Whaler incident, seem very tame.

Re: AHB 11 Dec

Yes I was lucky it wasn't a boat. I normally see things coming and the Ferries seem to keep their distance. To the credit of a fullers Ferry, as I got sorted and released from the rowing enthusiasts, a Ferry hove to, near me and enquired after my health. After I reassured them that I was OK, I went ...

AHB 11 Dec

Well, another eventful morning, no fish unfortunately, though I did get a few enquiries on the Orange Slider with the disco eyes. I got out at dawn and found that I'm obviously doing this for the excitement. I was just getting my Fishfinder sorted, and paddling around seeing where I could drop a bai...

Re: Is a sub-$500 set-up worth it or save a bit more?

I just got a Garmin Striker Plus 7sv and I'm really happy with it. I started out looking at a 4" Garmin and I did some months of research n comparisons. My impressions: At any particular price point, Garmin is better than Lowrance or others. I decided on not worrying about charts, because even the o...

Re: Roof Rack Set up advice

JMHO, I got a cheap set of square bars. I put the 'yak upside down on it, i.e. gunwhales on the bars. I use a pair of jandals cut in half (so 4 pieces) to prevent injury to the 'yak where the bars are, a couple of ratchet tied downs and Bob's yer uncle. Been at highway speeds to Taupo n back, with a...

It occurs to me, I'm being a bit spartan. I want to gift this Fishfinder on, in the spirit which it was gifted to me, so, I will, faff around with postage and such. Anyone who would like this Fishfinder, please message me and I'll NZpost it anywhere in NZ. This has a lot of life left in it, and If y...
