What the truck just happened x2

27 & 28/12 I came away to Whangamata with the family and a plan to fish for anything other than snapper, as I’ve always found it difficult this time of year down these ways. There’s always a ton of activity on the water which may have something to do with it. But of course, in true New Zealand fashi...

Re: Waitemata 14/12 & 16/12

Yeah, I'm not sure what it is. There have been great catches off the Birkenhead wharf recently, and reports/photos of some good fish being caught in the harbour. The bait and burley in the shallows has produced better-sized fish for me than lures, but still nothing worth bragging about. I hit the la...

Waitemata 14/12 & 16/12

14/11 - Hit the harbour again with a 5am launch from Island Bay into glassy conditions. The plan was to go sliders/softbaits until the tide slowed up, and then because I love straylining the shallows, anchor up for a bait & burley. I paddled across the channel and up the harbour a way to a point wh...

Re: Drift Distance

That’s awesome, guys. Thanks for the info. I think perhaps I need to do some longer drifts! DocProfit, you’re out off NN pretty much every day (maybe you took the last week off :D ) I’m picking you start at one end and go with the tide. It’s a hell paddle against that current. On the few occasions I...

Drift Distance

Hey everyone. I know this is probably different for different scenarios, but it would be interesting to know, for those of you that drift fish, what a typical drift looks like. How long do you usually drift for before you decide to: a) move to a different area b) redrift the same line How much eithe...

Re: Newby in Wanganui with some Newby questions

I also wear cheap leggings under my shorts for sun protection and either wetsuit booties or shoes depending if I'm landing on rocks or not. In winter I'll chuck on some woollen socks too, but usually after launch! In summer it's a long sleeve tee and a wide brim hat for sun protection and in winter ...

Re: Tips and ideas to Keep It Simple please.

Yeah, I'm keen to hear some ideas people have too. I tend to take way more stuff than I probably need to... I try to have small containers in the garage packed ready to go for whatever style of fishing I want to do on that particular day - soft baiting for example - a few jigheads, some leader and a...

Waitemata 23/11

Been a while between reports - mostly I forget to take photos before I eat the catch 8) Have been enjoying reading everyone else’s though! I heard the snapper had made their way in so of course I had to find out for myself. Went for an after work mission up the harbour on Friday night. Paddled our f...

Keep them coming, they’re great to read. It’s cool to see that you’re consistently catching good fish so close to the city.

Might see you out there

Re: NN 22-09

Nice work as usual, lads. Looks like I missed it by a day - went out from NN this morning for a few slow hours and came back with 1 pannie. Slider and softies. That paddle back against the wind and tide is brutal. Kudos to you gents, you work hard for those fish and do well on most trips by the look...
