Re: Sharpening knives - The Kleva Sharp

I've got a Kleva sharp and so far it's ok - about 3 months in. I did notice if you don't pay attention or put too much pressure on the blade that it kinda 'bounces' through the sharpener which might explain the blade chips described. I haven't spent much on my knives so it will be interesting to see...

Re: Fresh water fishing for dummies

I've heard from boaties that the stretch of Waikato river downstream from Mercer can be quite productive for trout. I think most people troll Cobras or Tasmanian Devil lures.

The current can be pretty fast at times, make sure your batteries have a full charge FOM :)

Re: getting way out there...

I think you are right Kerry. The type of wettie I used has the different surface look compared to the spear fishing suits I've seen. Going offshore solo I wonder how many people use a tether? I have one and use it when I go solo or visit gnarly spots... It's nice peace of mind to know I'm attached t...

Re: getting way out there...

Hey Kerry

I used to wear a wetsuit but I found the wind chill on my wet legs , which you inevitably get on the yak, was terrible in the winter months.

What do you do to combat that? ... or was it the type of wetsuit I used maybe?

Re: how much gear do you realy need

Takes me about 30mins from the time I stop the car. Most of that time is spent giving the fishing buddies shit though rather than really getting ready. If I go solo I can get the yak off the roof and be on the water in about 10 mins. I could be quicker but i can be a bit OCD so tend check everything...

Nice trevs!

I've never iki'd them myself. I cut their throats and hold on tight whilst I let them bleed out into the tide - doesn't take long.

Well done.

Where did you fish?

Sounds like the kind of day I had at Wilsons about a week ago.

Nice.

I thought Gurnard are located all through the Gulf...

Is it technique more than location needed to get them? I catch them infrequently but in most places I fish all around the Coro Peninsula

Re: help needed: compatibility of transducer scupper hole for Ocean Kayak Ultra series

I agree its a pain in the ass that OK have gone with the design that won't fit some sounders transducers in the scupper... Think it's silly for any brand to go that way actually ... Same with Ipad etc plugs... That said, I love my OK and my internal setup works fine :y: ... And I've got an IPad too ...

Re: help needed: compatibility of transducer scupper hole for Ocean Kayak Ultra series

I have got an ultra 4.7 from the early days so the scupper hole doesn't suit the new sounders with side/down imaging.

I did an internal mount with Selleys All Clear glue. Turned the sensitivity setting up and it works fine with my DI humminbird model.

Nice one Janet.

You should get out on the water more often and leave Rob to mind the shop by himself!

Re: 2015 EBOP Kayak Fishing Club Tournament

Well done to the EBOP club. You guys ran a great comp.

Heaps of spot prizes and great category prizes too.

I had a great day!

I don't fish many comps but I'll be back next year for this one.

Nah didn't change my vote. Proposed means jack sh*t in my book. If they really meant it they should have proposed it back when they screwed us over on the new bag limit.

Re: Why do you remove the gills?

Yup get them on ice ASAP is way more important. You don't see the commercial guys gutting n gilling and they are relying on selling a quality product.
