Re: Deploying Berley

Depending on target specie.
Assuming it's snapper, about 1/4 up from the bottom and tied to anchor rope.

I'd suggest something that's easily sacrificed.

I've been avoiding reading trip reports because quite frankly I'm jealous :envy: :envy: :envy:
Thanks for sharing, looks like an amazing place.

They look very similar to the 'Spanish mackeral' I've caught a couple of here, very similar to kahawai but very pointed nose.

Re: Missing kayaker - usual drill safety comes second?

What's worse is that after not following basic common sense, raising an alarm (approx 5pm), search helicopter out for a period of time to recover kayak and paddle approx 8km north the victim called the police to advise that he was home and okay 11 hours later :@ http://www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times/...

Re: Feelfree Gemini

I can only give you one pice of advice from experience.
Avoid scupper plugs apart from in the rear well if you want to retain fish blood etc.
Scuppers are there for a reason and if you cop a series of swell you will quickly get swamped.

Re: Has anyone made jigheads?

I used to make lead sinkers many years ago from wheel rim weights.

If you wanted more it could be worth getting in touch with a tyre shop.
Nowadays it's probably worth holding onto / selling for recycling but you may be able to score some if you asked nicely.

Re: Leash management

I also have different coloured leashes so i know whats what when they get tangled...which they do.....a lot.... .......and I hate to admit it but this is why my paddle and 2 rods get leashed, any extra gear which is usually one or 2 more rods are elected to be sacrificed to the gods should I turtle.
