Re: Coromandel Peninsula...Port Jackson area

It's a long way to go for a day trip. Port Jackson has some mean current and very exposed to any wind. My suggestion is to try for 2 days, stay the night at Fantail bay DOC camp for $10 and you're nearly at Port Jackson from there. The water gets quite deep in close from Fantail so if the wind kicks...

Re: Setting a Cray Pot

Not speaking from personal experience but I've heard that....
a.) Shiny new galv pots and
b.) Pots that flex/move

Tend to spook crayfish.
So yeah, the heavier pot is a good move and yip, keep the bait well secured.

Re: Powering it up .

I briefly toyed with the idea...... Yes, motors are cheap now but keep looking, batteries are expensive, heavy and have a shelf life. Fatherofmany has been down this track so could give you pro's and cons of an electric setup. One of the guys on here recently powered a reload with a small air cooled...

Re: Help struggling getting the Kayak to the water

If it's in your budget go Wheelez.

I've used both and Wheelez are by far superior but with a price to match.
Wheelez will climb over rocks, pebbles, driftwood and soft sand better.

P.S

I'm not sponsored by Wheelez but happily would be

Re: Errrr Sharks?

30 miles offshore, beyond White Island I vividly remember crew on a mothership trip being pulled overboard by a very 'green' and bleeding Kingfish (20+kg) while trying to drag it on his lap. I was too far away to assist but heard the cries for help. Story goes that he was hugging this Kingfish and c...

I know that HLD had a BIG Great white encounter too. Do tell! Love this rubber necking forum! Here's my story..... Actually, I do enjoy shark encounters to a degree now although at the time some are both adrenalin rush and a bit of a scare. http://www.kayakfishingnz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=39...

Re: Errrr Sharks?

My experiences, hammerhead, tope, bronzies, Great White, blue, carpet, thresher and Mako. Most are just inquisitive, I'd never trust a Mako (they're psychotic). If you provoke them they're naturally going to retaliate, possibly by retreat but potentially by attack. Avoid blood/burley, don't hit them...

Re: Ultra 4.3 rudder maintenance

How did you get on? There really isn't much you can do maintenance wise, the design means everything is pretty tight so it doesn't need much dirt/salt/etc in there and it tightens up pretty quickly, any lube tends to attract the dirt so doesn't help that much... I found a really good flush out with...
