I use both a Shimano Symetre 4000 and Shimano Stradic 2500. The 2500 is a bit lighter and less bulky to handle on the yak, but not so significant that i dont use my 4000. If im going on a shallow mish im happy to use my 2500 but prefer the 4000 if going out deep(usually on mates boat)

Something like a Shimano Sienna/Catana combo will get you started on the cheap(but not too nasty). Use this sites search function and you'll find a lot of info, much more than i could give you myself :y:
