Hi FOM a bait caster overhead style reel that you use in the sea is all you need for jigging for trout and you can buy the pre tied fly traces from any hunting and fishing stores just ask for the pat swift brand.
Hi we moved back to invercargill from Auckland last year and I was right into my kayak fishing up there and I am keen to get out any where Dunedin south for a look around. Will need to get paddle fit again.
I have had a lot of luck jigging and you don't need to go to far from town just head out to aciaia bay and go bay further and lunch at the right hand side of the bay where there is car access and head out from there and keep a eye you on the sounder to you see the schools of fish. Good luck.

Hi fritter I tyres these last weekend and you use about 4metres of trace with a lefty sloop on the end for the jig also use very little drag and just keep winding when it loads up I had great fun with this last weekend at Sullivan's bay
