Re: Does nobody use JARA removeable sinkers these days?

This has me wondering what happened to JARA? Did someone buy them out and shelve it? It's too good a sinker to not be sold by someone. I don't doubt the Kilk stuff works and will buy some if I have no other choice, but there was nothing much wrong with the JARA sinkers. I never lost one unless the ...

Re: Online swap meet, anyone?

Would anyone with a spare 6000-sized baitrunner reel in good nic want to swap it for a greenland paddle? I've got three paddles, two of which I haven't tested yet but if they work as well as I hope I could swap one or both and move onto experimenting with different paddle styles. If they don't padd...

Re: Wheeleez Kayak Trolley

Just add a further conversation. Now I have a lighter kayak ( the Kraken was a great fishing machine but heavy ) and I the C-Tug I had went with it. Is the smaller wheel Wheeleez cart ( $200ish) that much better or do I keep saving and go for the standard one at around $300? I have the Wheeleez wit...

Welcome to the addiction. :) Enjoy the ride. Tim Taylor runs a guide and hire fishing kayak business down there. He used to do regular informal trips from local spots. NZKayaker.com ( also uses 440's amongst others ;) )

Re: How about a 'Craziest Lure' competition?

Growing up I saw a sparkplug, beer can tabs and a flattened Dynabolt sleeve used for kahawai. A few strands of heavy knitting wool worked when trolled ( red for 'couta, white for kahawai) Hohepa showed us how to turn a Moro bar wrapper or chip packet into a flasher rig. I have knicked tea spoons and...

Re: Some interesting things

Trace caddy , neat and simple. But don't leave them stored wound up long term, they will take on a set and are a pain to use when acing like springs out of the water. Live bait basket needs a top to keep the fish from jumping out or even the bottom to be blasted through by a diving gannet! Goo...

Re: A cautionary tale

Paddle Guy ( Jason Milne ) and Jim Sammons ( Kayak Fishing Tales) have useful You Tube videos on coming in through surf. There is also one I found with a guy on a Hobie Island pontoon and out board set up using a drift chute ( small one ) , however the "surf" on that one would not raise a sweat on m...

Re: A cautionary tale

Yeah but actually deploying the chute I thought might give you some drag, making it impossible to catch a wave and get turtled. It would be a slow, but steady ride back to shore. You may get splashed a bit though.. Drouge or chute is to negate or lessen the effect of the wind. ie, slow down the dri...

This would be a great "second" kayak to have. Light enough for the wife to carry , easy to paddle by anyone and fun at the beach. :)
If only I wasn't "cash impaired " :P

Re: Yak hard-body lure starter pack recommendations please.

But none of the lure distributors I have emailed with this idea have returned my contact except for one in Oz who gave me the NZ agent details. So I guess that idea is dead in the water. Try changing the lure if they aren't biting  [Waits for laughs....not a sausage, exits stage left] My ADHD ...

Re: Yak hard-body lure starter pack recommendations please.

Comparison time :) The smaller one is a Halco Crazy Diver , comes with two interchangable bibs ( yes , I lost the other one :( ) Two middle ones are Dr Evil , two larger ones are boatshow specials from a couple of years ago , I don't remember the brand. Towing one is like driving a car with square w...

Re: Yak hard-body lure starter pack recommendations please.

I coudn't find the old larger Sonic ( I have two ) on the Strike pro website either, the newer Archback one looks about right though. I have a completely unscientific and no doubt technicaly flawed anacdotal ( my English spelling is awful, I know) "test" , one time out off Sullivans Bay I trolled my...

Re: Yak hard-body lure starter pack recommendations please.

I think if you asked ten people to pick their favourite lures you will get twelve different answers! :D However , the ones I use are the Classic Dr Evil (5m and deeper), Strike Pro Sonic is aother, there is a "new" StrikePro Archback Deep Diver model 12cm , I am thinking of ordering, ( H&F will get ...
