PFD repairs

Anyone know if anyone does small repairs on life jackets - I have a tear which will only get worse on the pocket.

Re: A cautionary tale

Better wet, than having to untangle all the leads and gear and so on, if the 'yak goes bum up A good point to make - one shouldn't be on a Yak with the possibility of being entangled in line and/or rigging, anchor line should the inevitable happen - I do try to make a conscious effort to keep the d...

Re: A cautionary tale

Bloody good discussion guys - I'll be trying to get out without gear to trial a few of these techniques in the surf (with a buddy)

This is one of the better surf tutorial Vids I've seen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRdYMIU3Di8

A cautionary tale

For those of you who have read my posts know I love the fishing off Makara Beach, Wellington - and this evening was no exception - crystal clear water - it must have been 10 metres plus viz as I looked over the side of the yak and could see the Makeral and Kahawai schools through the water column do...

Any news on this?

Two questions

What is the preference:

Securing your paddle to the Yak or yourself - ie. the lifejacket and why?

What is the common practice - tying a flourocarbon leader to braid (via a FG knot or similar) and then swivel and interchangeable rigs - or just tying a swivel attachment to the braid and adding rigs ?

Top effort - hopefully they'll be hanging around this weekend - I'd love to add one of these to my catch list this summer.

Re: Lowrance Hook 3x Transducer -

Thanks Guys,

I took the unit out and had a lot of fun with it. I could see the fish below and ended up with a few on my boat - so thank you. Hopefully this water cools down a bit and the snapper may come back! a balmy 19.3 in the water down here - Wgtn.

Lowrance Hook 3x Transducer -

Hi all, I've just installed a Lowrance Hook 3x Fish finder and Transducer on my 4.3 Ocean Kayak Prowler using the scupper hole - however the unit does not seem to correctly fit in the cavity and is on a 20 degree angle towards the bow of the yak - will this be a problem? or will the sonar just effec...

Those TM yaks look pretty good entry level boats for your purposes - you've no rudder - if that's something you want - but something that won't break if used in the surf. I might be keen on the double yak - should you get these?

Fish Finder Upgrade

I'd really like to upgrade to a Fishfinder, GPS, Chartplotter from my little HB 550 fishfinder (with the tiny fish incons ;-) I was looking at the Raymarine Dragonfly for around $600 but I'm a tad concerned about transducer getting caught on sand, rocks and beach while loading and unloading the yak....

Re: Returning to the kayak, where & what to catch in Wellington?

Straight off the beach at Makara is my fav - always a Teri or two hanging around - check out sunken rock also. I'll be looking forward to getting out there once I get this work load off my shoulders! Snaps are coming back too!! Yehaaa!
