Re: taranaki classic

Looking like the conditions will be good for the comp. There has been a bit of rain so the water is dirty in close but there is only a small swell and forecast is for light winds both days so should be some nice flat water. :y: small swell if your local, big swell if youre a Jaffa! ;) kidding condi...

Bloody nice mate. Was a tough day at BBK on Sunday, got sharked in first spot then redemption at second spot with a flurry of 30cm snapper, not big but big enough to eat.

Re: This weekend?

Nice catch there MikG. How deep are you fishing off BBK? My old man was out off there on Sunday in his boat and really struggled. Got plagued with red cod![/quote]

Sounder was on the blink, I'm guessing bout 13-15m.

Re: This weekend?

Lightning raid off BBK for a feed of snaps was the plan for Sunday morning, as aka A-Team, 'I love it when a plan comes together'.
Back on shore at 830 with a bin of snapper. Snapper and Kahawai fighting over every bait.

Re: Anchoring for newbies

1.5kg with about 1.5m of decent chain holds sand and reef easy. Can pick up all the bits from a lifting centre including scaffolders 3mm tie rope for anchor line. Buy a cheap winder from Bunnings or Mitre 10. Using 20lb nylon as the anchor trip. Never let go under anchor even with a mate tied off t...

Re: Warehouse fishing gear what's the go?

iv had a 25 buck shimano 4000 from the redshed for a couple of years now and its still killing it. Disclaimer - I'm not regularly catching kingfish and big snapper but it has dealt to a fair number of snapper around the 10-15lb mark. As for hooks from the shed, they suck, I got a pack once and bent ...
