To me it doesn't sound like the hook was ever actually hooked on the fish, more like the fish just holding the bait. I'd look at using a larger hook and would also still have a smooth easy strike to set the hook. Once hooked play gently gently for sure but you need that hook finding some part of the...

Fish bag is better then the pod for keeping things cool but more difficult to get bigger fish into still a very good investment.

Snuck out 1030ish and fish the shallows for a few hours wasn't expecting a lot but snagged a handful. Biggest went 67.5cm smallest 36cm.
