Kohi - Friday 17th

Well this is probably going to be the worse trip report ever, don't even have any photos, but thought because I've been off the forum and kayak for over a year I'd lodge a post to mark my return to both. I was living in Murray's Bay and would regularly fish from there, but moved in central a year an...

Re: Big Paddle - Anyone interested?

Hey Destin, it's been a long while since I've been on here or out in my kayak, but am going to get back into it. Great to see you've kept up your amazing trip reports - great reading through those again. As soon as I get fit again, I'd be keen for a big paddle. I moved from Murray's Bay (where I us...

Re: Free to a good home...

Okay, it's time for the love to be spread once more....I've worked my way through the majority of these and now my wife has suggested (3 months ago), asked firmly (1 month ago), demanded (2 weeks ago), threatened to set them on fire while locking me in the room they are in (today).....SO..... Mental...

Re: A quiet week for trip reports in Auckland?

Yeah I am hoping for some fine weather after all of this. I have by far found winter the best time to fish. I hardly got out in spring due to all the wind we had.

Re: EDITORIAL NZ HERALD : Cutting Snapper Stocks

Yeah totally, the undercurrent of the article is fairly anti-rec with no balance. You should write a letter to the editor with your facts, or I would be happy to if you don't have time - but I would use your facts if I was doing so. Or I could draft it on here and get comment before submitting it. I...

Re: Quick Research and Calculation: Rec vs Com

Fair enough. Taking that as a percentage of the total (with $3.5bil being the value of total), the snapper portion is worth around $55mil to the NZ economy. So I see your point on that.

Re: Quick Research and Calculation: Rec vs Com

If there are 8000 workers in the fisheries industry as you say, and for argument's sake if they earn the average NZ wage of $55k, then they are paying around $10k tax. So 8000 x $10k = $80 million in tax revenue. Plus that additional $45k they earn is spent on clothes, food, mortgage or rent, etc......

Re: Possible cuts to Auckland snapper bag limits 40%?

Wow some interesting posts going on with this thread. On the fishing license fee: I think comparing snapper fishing to what happens with our trout fishery is like comparing apples and oranges. In fly fishing there is largely (excluding Rotorua from what I've seen) a culture of 'catch and release'. I...

Re: New PB - Murray's Bay - 10.06.2013

Well done, nice fish and great to pick up a PB at your local :y: Yeah that's the best part. I've really gotten to know my local now, and I know just about every nook and cranny along with where to go depending on wind and current. If I'm not catching in one spot I know a number of other places to t...

Re: Economical

Yeah I imagine I would have spent more at my local tackle store than I have made up for in snapper fillets. As an aside, I hate it when I go into a tackle store to buy one particular thing and end up coming out with everything but what I went in there for :wasntme: . That said, it is a fantastic spo...

Re: Li Ion Batteries

Yeah I did a little research before purchasing one and found that the possibility of it having a melt-down is extremely remote. Remembering that all laptops have li ion batteries, so if you aren't worried about your laptop exploding, I think you will be pretty safe with this. Unless, as Limitless ha...

New PB - Murray's Bay - 10.06.2013

Well Monday early afternoon I decided to head out for a fish. Got to the beach at 2.30pm and noticed some activity on the water. Could see some in close but also quite a bit further out. Paddled for about a minute and tried to weigh up where to go. As there was a small amount of activity just in fro...

Yeah I've been meaning to put up a post on this, as I purchased one about a month ago. Murrays Bay is good. Either straight out, or to the left of the point where there is a lot of structure. I will probably head out at around midday and would be happy to take you round some spots.

Sick of this thread and the ignorance of those who have never been on the losing end of imports You of course don't have to keep coming back to read the thread. I think the comment is a bit harsh as of course most of us have not done a large quantity import of something, hence the reason for this t...
