Re: Budget baitcaster reel

Thanks sk8e8, I'm really after a low profile baitcaster and I already have a catana rod in the shed to put it on.
Thanks Mike, the fish you mention would be typical target species. I'm leaning more toward the shimano, I've come across a few good reviews now.

Budget baitcaster reel

Hello! I have this problem with my kids taking a liking to my lightweight baitcaster setup as its obviously lighter and easy for them to use. To be honest, is freaks me out seeing them nearly dropping my precious, precision, expensive fishing gear overboard as well as the other abuse young kids seem...

Re: French pass

I've been through the pass many times in a boat and there's no way you'll see me attempting it in a kayak! However, Elmslie Bay is a really nice access point with some great fishing options without having to go anywhere near the pass. Clayface Point and Cove Point offer great fishing. The Elmslie Ba...

Re: Pepin or Okiwi one weekend shortly.

Nice work.
I must blow the dust off my kayak soon. Hanging out for a feed of fish. Been really busy with building a new house, tied up with family and hunting also as of lately. Its time to shuffle a few priorities around!

Re: Newbie here. Which kayak & basic gear setup ?

A TLD15 is as big as you would probably want to go IMO. A shimano 'charter special' would be another good choice. I've got a TR200G and find it surprisingly good for kayak fishing! I've had it for about 5-6 years and it's had a real thrashing and never been serviced :tmi: it just keeps on performing...

Re: Storing Zman softbaits

Destin, Does the hook shaft of your jig head not rust though? salt water must get trapped in there after use. I like remove mine to clean the hook real good.. :^)

Re: Gone quiet

Fishing was hot&cold over at Okiwi bay on Saturday. We pumped 4kgs of salmon burly into the current behind the Islands trying to attract some kingies but didn't even manage to attract any much needed baitfish for a livie, not a single sprat or kahawai, let alone any green-backed hoodlums! We did how...

well done mate! Finally broken that dry spell. shame about losing the set line though. I've often picked up good fish just leaving the softbait drifting out the back too, especially gurnard.

Re: Tahananui, Nelson 9/1/14 He Got Away

Intense! It's not really like you can just tighten up the drag and pull them away from the foul on a yak eh..(difficult enough on a boat sometimes too) It would have been pretty exciting alright
