Re: New member

Welcome Team, thats a solid fishing platform and a great one to get you out there, just be very careful of the currents in and around that area, often you can hear the water change in minutes, but yes all around that coast line can fish very well, Waitawa regional park is a nice safe launching spot...

Re: Chinese reels - Opinions? Experiences?

Blah, I don't approve of paying excessively for a label, but apart from that my experience with everything else in life has been that you get what you pay for. Why that would be any different in a harsh salt-water environment, I don't know? Can't speak from experience (I do own a shishamo or somethi...

Re: ererO 17610

|( |( :| ;) Yeah mate, would love to go out with you more than anyone... In the past I've been afraid to commit to a day beforehand because if the weather even just frowns at me on the morning, then I prefer to tail it back to the safety of Waitawa park. Kind of over that now, so would love to tag ...

Nice BB,

Need to join you at Orere (sober spelling) some time, as I never seem to catch much there.

Nice. I find a little gaff easier for kahawai from the yak.
Yep, got one in the back of the kayak - just not very used to using it or remembering to use it.

Big Day

Woke up at 4:15 yesterday morning and headed out to Kawakawa bay. The Waitawa Park gate only opens at 6:00am, so I drove on past to Kawakawa bay boat ramp, but with my compulsory toilet stop and whatnot, I only launched at 6:30 anyway. What a lovely morning!!! Inside the bay was flat as a mirror. I ...

Happy birthday for yesterday mate, sounds like you had a good day and that sunrise with mirror-like conditions was sure a good start to the day.

Re: Transport kayak on ute

I carried my 50kg+ Old Town Predator and my previous 3 kayaks on my car's roof for 5+ years and recently changed to a trailer and every time I go out I feel like recruiting a few door-to-door salesmen to help me spread the word about how much better life is with a trailer! Might not make sense for y...

Looks like the weather is a repeat of last week! So I'm going to give it a try again tomorrow and hopefully do a bit better this time.

Nice catch AR, those are some good sized pannies. And thanks for the LJ, bit small, but you can keep it on ice for me until I get up there :)

I stick to a four or five turn uni knot. Provided it cinches down nicely, I'm a 100% confident in it.
Mate, I've been tying those knots from before I could speak:) Nothing wrong with the knot, I must have just done something stupid this time.

Re: Weather This Week

Jetski reports of old-time kayakers, of course!! Well, I'll be honest, today (Tuesday) was not perfect for being out there! Well not for me anyway. Always better than sitting at home or at the office, but I ended up with only one 32 and one 36cm snapper. How do you slow down your drift if the curren...

Weather is looking awesome this week, hoping to be out Thurs and Friday :y:
Not confident enough in the weather to wait that long... Saturday's already showing some patches of red on WindGuru and that might shift to Friday.

Re: Weather This Week

You need to go fishing more! :) And I need to get better at catching them! Just had the Monk fish steamed and that's both the first and last time!!! Tastes like pasta left in boiling water for too long with a hit of something that makes you want to hurl! Fried it in some butter afterwards and then ...

Re: Weather This Week

What did that buy? Two snapper fillets? Nah, I'm a cheapy... Between Monk fish, Terakihi and Hoki you get a fair bit of fish for $70. 2 pieces of salmon just to prevent total mutiny by the taste buds. My wife has been a good sport lately. Last week's menu! Monday - breaded snapper Tuesday - ...

First world problems!
Indeed... I just spend $70 on fish from Countdown last night ( :$ :$ :$ ) so clearly I need the extra practice to keep the freezer stocked.

Weather This Week

Anyone on holiday or taking some time off this week? Weather looks the business: WG20170820-.png Dreaded dentist appointment tomorrow, but I'll aim for Orere Point on Tuesday! I was tempted to head up north again this week, but the wife has convinced me that I should be close to Auckland for possibl...
