Re: Landing big fish - what do you use and why?

Gently pull to side of yak by leader/jig and grab tail. Never had a problem with big fish. It's the small ones that flap around and cause havoc :D

Great looking yaks. If I was looking for another kayak, the PDL would be my first choice. I would want a trailer for it though

Re: For the love of fish

All trout. I grew up eating them and loved it. After 5 years in Northland and a diet of snapper, john dory, bluenose, gurnard, scallops, crayfish etc, fresh cooked trout turns my stomach. I nearly puked last time I tired it

Gravad lax for trout. I won't post a recipe as I just Google it, but it makes the damn things edible :y:

Re: Lower back pain

I wonder how much kayak fishing-related back pain comes from dead lifting 30kg on to the roof of an SUV? Just a thought.

Re: A little story about Shimano - and why I will never buy them again.

I think this is a NZ thing - FU/poor customer service. I am genuinely surprised when this isn't the case. People make a song and dance about buying offshore and NZ warranties, but I don't think it matters, it's generally FU all the way. I hope other brands selling here are better. Any recommendations?

Re: Drogue/Sea anchors

I am going to sell my Tagit sea anchor if anyone is interested. It's sold as a jetski anchor, but if you want something bigger then this would suit a kayak. I'm upgrading to a larger one as this one is too small for the ski. There is a pattern emerging here! https://www.fishingdirectnz.co.nz/shop/Sh...

Re: Kayak Fishfinder - GPS - Sounder Recommendations

Most fishfinder-GPS units are pretty good these days. What will set one above another is it's durability on a kayak. My Humminbird 597 has come with me from kayak to ski and still going strong. I think the integrated mounts/connectors on the 500/600/700 series is the best produced, but sadly, those ...

Trust me when I say there is no amount of money you could spend on a kayak that still wouldn’t make it seem cheap compared to anything with a motor [emoji22]

Looks almost exactly like a Prowler 4.3 which is a good yak. Whether the quality is there, I don't know.

Re: Need Another Tub

I would add the OK Scrambler to the shortlist. It was my first yak and I did an awful lot with it. When I upgraded to an OK Prowler Ultra 4.3, I never noticed any difference in paddling performance despite it's extra weight and length, although the rudder was a luxury!
