Re: Marine Reserves

Always gives me a chuckle when I see guys trying to get within metres of marine reserves like it’s going to be the answer to something. Newsflash - fish move around quite a lot, put a bit of effort in and you will find them.

Thanks Doc. Will let the person know about the Scramblers. Also happened to be my first yak as well, agree with everything you say about them.

Re: Kayak wanted

Cheers Meatc. I will mention it, but probably too high spec/cost. You might want to consider selling that ute box separately as there seems to be a big demand for them,

Kayak wanted

Not by me! Posting on behalf of a work colleague. Anything considered, but they are not looking for top end, fish finders etc. Just a safe kayak that will get them out there for a bit of casual harbour fishing at a reasonable price. They are looking in Whangarei and the immediate areas to begin with...

Re: Two questions

I always had the paddle leashed to the yak, not me. Logic was that if I fell out, I would hold on to the the paddle and it would be less of an entanglement risk than a line from me to the yak. I fell out once (or rather, I was knocked over) and the system worked. FG knot is the gold standard. I don'...

Brave soul, Whangarei Harbour entrance

As per title, was it one of you guys out there this morning? It can be a nasty bit of water, and now silly season has started, extra hazardous. Hope it wasn't too exciting and you came home with a chilly bin full of fish! :)

Re: Is 7'9'' too long jak fishing?

In a previous life, I was regularly using 11, or even 12ft rods for casting lures. There are some definite advantages in some situations, but they don't translate to yak fishing, or being afloat in general.

Re: Pilchards versus Anchovies

I wouldn’t have thought that snapper would be so discerning as to turn their nose up at an anchovy, yet gobble up a pilchard?!

Now a discussion about orange versus blue jigs would be much more interesting [emoji39]

I’ll shut up now. Merry Christmas!

Re: Is 7'9'' too long jak fishing?

I just bought an Ocean Angler Microwave. At 8ft, it just didn't feel right (personal preference). Strangely, I exchanged it for a SHADOW X NANO 7' 3-6KG which has been out on a couple of trips now. :y: from me :)

Re: Kingi

I hope this is constructive. Our first experience of eating kingfish wasn't great. Not bled, not iced very well, dark meat not taken off, not vacuum packed for the freezer. My other half didn't want any more after that and we were pleased to get rid of it. It mainly ended up in curries as I remember...

Re: Prowler 13 vs Prowler 4.5 Elite

I’ve always thought of the Elite as a tippy yak judging by how many times my old fishing buddy fell out of it, but maybe that was just him!

Re: Different life jackets on the market

My Palm Hydro adventure has been great. It's well suited to fishing. Generous pockets and attachment points. It's still going strong after nearly 8 years of regular use, but the colour has faded. Unfortunately, you probably won't know what you really want/need until you have a good number of trips u...
