To cut the line or not? It has been answered for us
Was reading around the net today about hooks left in fish and mortality rates etc and came across this: https://www.saltstrong.com/articles/fishing-lure-left-in-a-fishs-mouth/ Turns out, rather than mangle the fish trying to remove a hook, it can be much better for their survival to just leave it in...

Re: What are the most useless items you used while out fishing?
Took another forum member (Puckz) fishing a few times
Turns out he's the Blitz, and fish don't like him or anyone within several miles of his position.
He's now banned - Sorry bro

Re: Coromandel Peninsula...Port Jackson area
As others have said, be wary of the currents and wind around Port Jackson With the right conditions, it's a pretty easy place to fish, but when it turns it can be pretty wild I'm planning/hoping on heading up there before the end of the month with the wife and kids in tow for a weekend camping so wi...

Hope it wasn't one of us
This morning while fishing @ Orere I drifted over to a pair of yakkers who had had a pretty good morning fishing. Only problem was it was too good and they were clearly not capable of counting until it was too late. The paddlers were on a Blue/white unknown kayak with electric trolling motor and an ...

Re: Transducer
As long as it's installed either in a wet-box or with sealent and has no bubbles underneath it should be fine. Depends on the kayak also, if it's plastic then pretty simple, if glass you'll need to be sure that there isn't a small void between layers (eg fish box to hull) as this can give all kinds ...

Re: Sounder upgrade
The totalscan transducer can be fitted to the reload, however it sits proud of the hull and can be damaged. Unfortunately fitting it inside the hull will result in some signal losses, however it will still work if done correctly. Have a chat with Stephen at Viking about both options as he's the one ...

Re: New(ish) Beast
Nice set up, the HDS, are you running two transducers (Normal and Structure Scan) or is that screen shot in Demo mode? That screenshot is in demo mode as pics were taken on my lawn, but I have 2 tacklepods, one with Totalscan transducer (this gives traditional sonar, down imaging and side imaging a...

New(ish) Beast
So due to a ridiculous run of injuries, I have been kept off the water for the majority of the year, much to my dismay, but it's not been a complete loss I did pick up a new Reload way back around the boat show, and have had plenty of time to fit it out and test things to make sure it all works the ...

Re: Fish finder wanted!
+1. If you want an integrated chartplotter, you're going to have to up the budget, especially if you're buying new. I got my Humminbird 597 for $399 - a bargain which I have yet to see bettered. It's an expensive business, but worth it in my opinion. Ah i see, im a noob when it comes to this stuff....

Had to revive this old thread because, with currently 9989 posts only 11 posts to go and Mental will be the first(naturally) to hit 10,000 individual member posts If that's not a sign you need to do more fishing and less typing, I don't know what is - but just make sure you poat a TR when you do

Re: Wanted: New FF / Plotter !
It's obvious to most, but for the sake of transparency I wll state that I am heavily biased toward lowrance due to sponsorship. I would suggest looking at the Lowrance Elite 7Ti OR the Simrad Go 7. Both have some great features including the best resolution and distance side imaging on the market at...

Re: Tandem fishing kayak recommendations
I have the 2+1 and have had myself and the wife + 2 kids on it (one of them standing and walking around as we paddled) and it is amazingly stable.
At some agage in future I'd love to get a Tempo 2 as well
