Re: trip report - AKL 5 August

Shall not go too much into this. You at least realize the limitations of your clothing. Forget the anchor, Buy a drogue to slow your drift . Next time, if ever, you use an anchor again you only need to use the most minimal of material as a breakaway, definitely not 5lb mono, just a bit of light butc...

Re: So, who's getting the new plastic Stealth when they come out?

What happened to the Viking Reload in carbon? Would imagine a few have been sold, Andrew, cost would be the deciding factor, for most. We are only going fishing after all. For my money, ease of travel with stability, rod / gear holding capacity along with a place to store my catch when on the water...

So I shall be first. Not I . More than happy with my plastic, Viking Reload. 'Speed' is not my thing but fishing is. Reload coupled up with my Bixpy is all I need, great combination. :D

Re: Police harassment me new to kayaking hauraki gulf

I spent many hours of my youth fishing from the jetties at Westport, day and night we use to live across the road from port. Used to buy threepence worth of cats meat from butcher, caught many big eels and Kahawai. Cock a bullies galore off the slip way.

Re: Police harassment me new to kayaking hauraki gulf

It is difficult to understand what the conditions were from the way it is written but immediately one asks how much kayaking have you done? I can say I've had 70 years of ships and boats (dinghies, yachts and kayaks) so I'd expect my comments on conditions would be reasonably accurate. If someone h...

Was just thinking about calling it a day when something smashed softbait and something took off. Pulled some string and just as I was making ground knot to leader came undone! Gutted!

.

Need to work on those knots then. :y:

Re: Kayaker's in trouble.

Hey Mac50L, your whole outlook on what is written is very subjective. Heralds story is badly written Really ! Anything written by stuff, i personally would never believe a word of their reporting. The report was more likely written from the words of those that were involved.Looks like you reformatte...

Re: Kayaker's in trouble.

The forecast for later in the day was for building conditions . Wind turned from the East to North e...

Kayaker's in trouble.

A great result was had in the rescue of the two Kayak fishermen off the west coast (Today's Herald). A good day turned nasty when the wind picked up. I do not know but I would say it would of been Easterly as these blokes were forced quite a way offshore..Top marks for having the gear needed to surv...

Re: Waihi and surrounding areas

Cheers for that. I guess there are options to drive back over to the Thames side or further North if the wind is not playing ball - it's a couple hours away isn't it? From Bowentown to Waiomu, approx 1/25mins Thames side Waiomu fishing not to bad. Kereta another 15 mins always worth a look, not far...

Re: Waihi and surrounding areas

Scooter, best end North, of beach, straight off surf club in around the 8/10m mark. Few Gurn's around at the mo. Keep away from the entrance /bar area. Anzac bay looks the part but when tide runs very strong currents. Wind needs to be from a western quarter not North or East unless it is 5 /10 or so...

Be good to get a monthly group together. Share tricks and advice. Organize club comps etc
Waikato used to have monthly meetings, was kept together for a while then faded. Seanmcd, find a like minded mate stay together, forget the group stuff.
Enjoy your fishing.
