Re: Greenland paddle build

Took the blank into work today. Just under an hour with the spokeshave to rough shape it ready for the sanding. It weighed in at 1290g here 1.jpg 2.jpg This shows the offcuts making the spine overhanging the loom (in centre) 3.jpg Image is foreshortened here, but can see some funky grain that materi...

Re: Greenland paddle build

Thanks Sandy, have updated the original post.

@Dedant, Have toyed with the idea, although prefer the quick and easy std GL blade at this stage.

Glued second side this morning. Start shaping soon - That's the really enjoyable part :inlove:

Greenland paddle build

Currently doing a side-by-side build with someone by email, using the method (by our very own Mac50l) found at https://canterburyseakayak.wordpress.com/greenland-paddle-make-your-own/ , thought I'd throw it up here as well. I have a rack of blanks all precut - I like to do them in batches so I can m...

Rahui - Cavallis

Unfortunately the woman missing off Matauri Bay has not been found and search has now been scaled back.
Ngati Kura kaumatua have placed a rahui on the area.

Please respect if you're up this way this weekend. :y:
Cheers.

Re: Good camp sites , northland and eastern B O P

If you do MB, watch the channel to the Cavs - it can pick up mean with a NW. I've often come back with a 1.5m side-cresting chop on peak tide through there (in a sit in) And if you get caught, please don't be afraid to sit it out on Motukawanui until it eases rather than slug it out. The scenery may...

Re: Campground recommendations please, up north

For the Northern bit, there's the recommendations in this thread here : https://www.kayakfishingnz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=23809&sid=80a8dfe948e5c91636b89595e0ad63a4 But for Whangaroa specifically, I'd say Tauranga Bay Holiday camp if you want beachside. Sand is no good for c-tugs, but if you ...

Re: Good camp sites , northland and eastern B O P

My two picks in the Far North would be Matauri or Whatuwhiwhi Top Ten in Doubtless Bay. Matauri, as Matwould says, is 20min paddle to the Cavallis, and there is excellent fishing there with snapper that are angry enough to eat Kingy live baits, but isn't favourable to easterly quarter winds Whatuwhi...

Re: Vacuum sealers.

I use the Warehouse one with no issues over several years. Re: juicing, put a folded length of kitchen towel in the bag just before the seal to catch them pesky juices and ensure a good, dry seal. Also use it to make a quick and dirty drybag for my phone, and also my flares (put a nail in with the f...

Mental is the man to talk to... Haven't had one of his decals even start to think about falling off yet, and they are very resilient against knocks.

The original decal thread here, pretty pics start around page 4 or 5

Wee bit of experience weighing in here.... Fishfinders: Yeah, easier but not essential. Bit like TV Remotes made changing the channel easier... I still relish the day I watched my mate paddle straight past a huge workup because he was glued to the TV screen. I was watching the birds off to the side ...

Re: CCTV or hidden camera enquires

Yeah, 5MP isn't great, even in daylight really. H&F have the Moultrie Game Spy 2+ for $150, certainly not top shelf, but can always repurpose as general home security later if you upgrade. Chuck one in the roses by the gate for starters, they're fully self contained, no cables, boxes or power, and I...

Re: New Boat Taking On Water

I used to clip the bungs onto the ignition key as a reminder. Bung on the inside of the hull sounds an odd configuration, unless it's some sort of venturi? I know too well that feeling of bailing without progress after being out in my mates boat when the transom separated from the hull - Ahhh fun da...
