NN - 13/06

Skunked! Launched around 7am, beautiful day/conditions. Slider and Micro Jigs went completely untouched. Gave up after about an hour or two of nothing. Fortunately I still have a few fillets left in the freezer. Anyone else fish off NN on Saturday? How'd you get on? I saw a few yakkers out there. Ma...

Re: Skutes

Latest variation incorporating a slider skirt. This design has been working really well for me over the xmas break, plenty of snapper and kahawai. I think a King would take it too if i'm lucky. I had a bruised banana colour one that I had made. At Matauri bay I caught a decent sized snapper on it wh...

Nice work Mr. Wouldes, great when a plan comes together! Good to see people using that fish frames/heads app.

Mangawhai Heads 27/10

Found some nice fat spring snapper in Mangawhai on Sunday. Beautiful conditions and great to get some success on a skute I'd made. Launched about 6am from the Estuary and paddled through the incoming tide out over the bar. Absolutely zero swell which made things easier, i've never seen the surf so f...

Re: NN 20-10

Nice one, I avoided NN because of the Marathon. Launched from Rothesay but only managed a couple pannies.

What depth were you doing your drifts at Luke?

Re: NN The Mayor returns.

Dedant, don't make the same mistake as one of my other novice pupil's, namely Doc Profit, did last year. It's The Marathon and NN is a no go area all morning. Obviously as Mayor I'll be cutting the starting tape and am also afforded privileged Mayoral parking. Damn, I was gonna go to NN this Sunday...

Re: Skutes

Tied this monstrosity on the weekend. My girlfriend thinks it's very pretty.. she calls my tying station "the friendship bracelet arts and crafts set" :D This is on a 1 ounce jig head so a bit heavy for my typical 'softbait' style cast and retrieve. Plan to have this one hanging below the yak on my ...

Re: Skutes

Latest creations! Took the yak out Jones Bay - tawharanui last weekend. Couple snapper on the skute I pictured previously which was good fun. Tried a similar one to the green shown below (don't have photo). It got smashed by something big (felt like a shark) - kept peeling line and dragging the yak ...

Super Simple Sounder Install

The transducer install was easy enough as this model of yak has a scupper hole which is all ready to go with one of these scupper kits - https://s7d2.scene7.com/is/image/SS/4555_4555_1?$600$ Then I just had to figure out how to mount the display - I managed to get it set up pretty good using only a ...

Re: Skutes

Those are great mate, I like the contrasting colours. I need to experiment with some different colourways. you can get some real pretty gear but sometimes I feel like ugly stuff works better! That holds true for trout fishing at least. I think it's better to go for a suggestion of a fish rather than...

Re: snapper

Bait is obviously a tried and true/easy method. But soft baits are one of my favorite ways, very successful technique and much more exciting than bait to me. It's a more active style of fishing, and you really get to feel the fish hit your lure. You can change up your retrieve, depth, speed etc. Th...

Re: Skutes

Latest Skute. Can't wait to get it in the water! Really happy with this one, building on the success of the first design. Bulked up the head of the fly with some foam and pink chenille, and a zonker strip wrapped around the head. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/hpkgvqJ1XUZkDOIhK5Gx-a2E96PVbnyRRxe_...
