spring?

Finally... feels like its been a long winter. With warm days and rain it must be getting closer to spring. August seems to be a tough month for me with a few very quiet trips the usual pattern. So went out to Adele n fishermans isles on sat. A pleasantly warm offshore tooks us out and a light northe...

Re: Winter

Welcome roach. Plenty of yakkers around in summer but hard to find this time of year. You should find someone out in cable bay on a weekend if weathers mint and high tide around lunch. Gurnard be worth targeting and seems to still be good numbers of smaller snaps around. Try small baits of anchovy o...

Re: 2nd june

Do you just catch those fishing lures in a burley trail ? I'm too scared to put them down because of the couta around here. do you tend to lose very many lures ? Interested to see , because i will be switching over if it's not too bad. Great catch too , Jealous :y: mate your the one with the list o...

2nd june

Popped out of kaiteri.... the otherfulla picked up a nice snaps early on and added 3 more and a wharehou (must be winter). I chased some birds for awhile but couldnt find anything willing to eat plastic or metal. Anchored just off some good structure n pumped the burley. With a large block of squid ...

Re: Lower back pain

Stretch! My understanding is tight hammys can cause lower back pain. I used to struggle for a day of two after a long session on the water. A few gentle stretches or a short walk pre launch may help. Also flexing the legs while on the water? Seat position definetly makes a difference to how it suppo...

Re: kaiteri

Pulled into kaiteri carpark at the respectable time of 8am. Glassy n calm n plenty of cloud cover. I love this time of year. Cool but not cold, barely any wind, respectful tourist boat skippers, very few if any flotillas of terrorist kayakers and plenty of QUIET. Paddling around the point I noticed ...

kaiteri

I was feeling the itch last week. Ive been making sinking stickbaits and got to the point of really needing to see how they swim. So off to stevens for an easy high tide launch. A horrid easterly swell n southeast wind had me bouncing around for the first hour n two huge red cod on softies had me wo...

2+1 fun

After 3 mths off the water I was super keen to get back out n regain some sanity. The 'otha fulla' picked me up n we took out his 2+1.... First stop at kina. It was choppy onshore n forcast to get worse. Bailed off to the easy launch of kaiteri. Hit the water about 3pm with a bunch of micro jigs n 2...

Re: Trying to understand the unique advantages of yak fishing.

Ive dropped back to small reel/rod combos. rarely fish deeper than 15m so dont need capacity, and as you point out the yak races off once the drags tightened keeping you within 50m generally. Would be handy though to have more stopping power for kingis, if they were diving for structure directly und...
