Auckland - Who got out today?

I hope someone made the most of the mint weather today. Finally we have a wind-ow to get out this week! The trip reports section has been painfully quiet and the cabin-fever is taking hold... :drunk:

Re: kahawai recipes

Smoked kahawai on toast with poached eggs and a rotating cast of other breakfasty foods - whatever is handy - tomato, avocado, bacon, hot sauce, hollandaise, mayonnaise, and whatever fresh herbs are in the garden.

Re: Kapiti Island - 20/10/17

Cheers TBreezy, it had been a 6 months since my last Kingie and before that I was getting them on a regular basis when based up in Auckland. It had been tough going down in Welly and I had paddled the 8km over to Kapiti before to try to get a Kingie with no luck. So when it all came together this t...

Re: Fluoro leader for soft bait

I use Black Magic Wasabi 15lb for leader. Uni knot to a clip in using SB or straight to a hook if straylining. Have caught some nice sized fish on this setup and haven't found the need to go up in size as of yet, even off the rocks. The knot has never failed and in a year can count bust-offs on one ...

Re: New Member.

They look like they hit the market not even a year ago so probably don't have many reviews yet. There's a handful amongst the community posts on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/kingikayaks/community/?ref=page_internal Aggressively competitive prices though, could be worth a nudge if...

Yeah totally, can't complain with fresh fish in the pan. Far from disheartened though mate, just curious and perhaps a tad too ambitious |(

Re: Long weekend in Northland - where would you choose?

I fished at Bland Bay once and did pretty good. With Whananaki, if there's any swell it could get tricky, but Bland Bay is somewhat sheltered (behind those islands), and you have the Whangaruru harbour a couple hundred metres away too which could offer some calmer seas if there's any swell running. ...

Waiake 30th Sept

Hey all. Paddled out from Waiake at dawn on Saturday for a bit of a frustrating one. Went over plenty of sign in a variety of spots, in closer, out wider, other side of the bay, lined up for the drift but couldn't seem to get any bites! Tried mixing up the SP colours and shapes, dragging a 3/4 oz an...

Re: Lowrance Hook 4

Hey Stinky Inky. I recently installed a similar looking transducer inside the hull on my kayak (hook 3x model). I just used silicone and made a foam rubber surround to stick it to the bottom of the hull. I was dead set on NOT cutting any wires because I had heard from a couple of places that it won'...

Re: Arkles Bay

Thanks for the responses everyone and for the advice. Sradich - I'll keep that in mind. Stinky Inky - that makes sense! I have caught plenty of structure too :D I use a chart app on my phone to find bits of structure here and there also, that comes in quite handy, especially when re-drifting the sam...

Arkles Bay

Hey everyone. Figured I'd say hello via a Trip report. Have been lurking a wee while and there's some solid info and advice on here for a newbie, so hello and thanks everyone for sharing. One thing I didn't count on after acquiring a kayak was how much I would pay attention to the wind. It's becomin...
