Re: Newbie in the Waikato

Welcome (back) aboard. I'm pretty new around here myself. Live near Pirongia, but tend to fish out of the Mount or Coromandel mainly. Have had a couple of lashes out in the Kawhia and Aotea harbours. Still trying to figure out how to fish them a bit smarter, and Raglan needs a bit more of my attenti...

Venturing North in January.

Hi Humans, Family is heading north in lateJan for a week or so, we are staying at Pataua South, on the coast East of Whangarei. Any one got any tips? I'm hoping to get my kids into a bit of close-ish action of some sort, but also keen to venture further afield in search of a new PB leather jacket or...

Nice work. Things looking beautiful in the sunny HB. Have you got any good recipes for seagull - make a nice entree?

Coromandel Trip

Monday 27th. Hit Coromandel town, stopped at Rob Forts to hire a Kayak for my buddy Carl who is a long term fisher, but a kayak fishing virgin. Arrived Papa Aroha campground around lunch time, dumped our gear and headed out for a couple of hours, but no success. Headed out again at 7 pm after the af...

Epicskwid, you are an inspiration mate. Great to see a young fella hitting it hard. Good on ya for posting the report even though the fish in bin didn't quite match the massive effort you put in. Solid!!!

Re: As the song from "The Monkees" goes......

Thanks for the advice.....I might have to do some research. I think I'll take some time to figure out exactly what I want, save my pennies and buy a decent sort of a set up to run the jigs properly.....in the meantime though I'll give it a bloody good nudge on the softbait rods. Cheers!

Re: As the song from "The Monkees" goes......

Great little discussion line you have opened up hear Hainesy - Beautiful looking snapper there. How crucial is it to have the right rod/reel set up to get sliders and/or microjigs working properly? Up until now, I have essentially just been a dedicated SB enthusiast too, and have usually run with 2 ...

Re: Mahia - 3 Days of Magic

Mate, you are killing it. Great report. Awesome range of species. I worked in Wairoa for a few years as a young fella and spent a bit of time fishing the peninsula from the shore, but never had a hit rate like that. Nice! Like you say, great spot in that there is always somewhere you can tuck out of...

Thanks man, that is brilliant, you have opened my eyes. The charts on my chart plotter are awesome, but being able to sit in front of the computer plotting and scheming while I wait for this weather to finish with us is awesome! Cheers.

Re: Kapiti Island 23/09/17

How do you access you marine charts? - I hunt around on google maps a fair bit, but having the contour lines is bloody awesome. What are the contour lines set at on that chart?

Re: buying fish finder/ chartplottrt from Ebay

I bought a fish finder/chart plotter from Viking at the start of the year. I didn't actually consider buying off shore (I guess because I was too chicken about warranties/local compatibility etc), but I got pretty close to buying from Burnsco or one of the other marine supply companies. In the end, ...

Re: Are we loosing the "brotherhood "??

Hainsey, I'm really still just a newbie, so I think a lot of what that article refers to goes over my head a little. For me personally, the brotherhood still seems very much alive. Whether I'm out at dinner and spark up a conversation about kayak fishing with a new acquaintance or meet someone rando...

Hey Riverboater, thanks for the reply and suggestions, they are some good looking little rocks, and like you say, within easier striking distance. I'm keen for a look. So much water....so little time!

Re: Whale Island

Cowboy - I'd say I averaged around 6 kph, maybe just a touch under. I don't think I'm the fastest paddler at the best of times, but I was trying to keep up a steady speed that would allow me enough gas in the tank just in case the river entrance got tough. I'm turning 40 next year, and I'm doing a f...
