Re: kayak transport from kapiti to taupo

If it's the Stealth on the Kapiti Coast, it probably won't last long.

Onya Andrew. I'm just about sorted for gear - just putting one last order together for Summer and then set.
Let's roll the $50 over until the next good weather weekend and hopefully there's a KFNZer or two keen to have a crack at it.

Re: How 'bout a comp' this weekend - 26/27th Feb 2022?

I thought you were an honorary ghost of kayakers past thus eligible regardless of ride. It was open to KFNZ members, even the deluded unfortunates that put a bixpy on and still call their craft a kayak. So that makes ya eligible. Besides, the reason I was thinking of the length to line capacity rati...

Hey Andrew, congrats, you won the comp as the only one who caught anything this past weekend.
Pm ya details and I'll shoot the $ through.

Re: Random questions: sabikis, trailers, rod floatation, etc.

Casualtyward, thanks for that. Yeah, three seems safer for this clutz to manage on a kayak. Might try a SS set though and see if they last any longer. Can only find them with six hooks though. Perhaps will cut it in half. Nemesis, my spin set-ups, using cheap reels, will likely float but I've never ...

Re: How 'bout a comp' this weekend - 26/27th Feb 2022?

Everything crossed, hoping you got out and amongst the big critters today Andrew. I decided that after a shite Feb, I'm not fit enough yet to risk it. Did a local mish instead but cut that short this morning due to the East swell still being up more than I'd like and knowing I'd have to make a low t...

As it happens often, I could be wrong again, but I think it stays in the outbox until the recipient opens it, then it is shown as sent.

Your self-build yak is looking great Swainsnow. Please keep us posted on progress.

Tuesday looking likely, if swell drops and the Easterly doesn't get too strong. If, if, if. then it looks shite again until the week after. Crazy small windows for small craft, especially a kayak. I bet the big boats love it though - keeps wannabe flotsam out of their way ;-)

Re: How 'bout a comp' this weekend - 26/27th Feb 2022?

Good luck Andrew. Right now was about the only shot, given the combo of swell, wind, tide, but other commitments mean I'm screwed. Tomorrow morning might be the only other possible window but tide is all wrong. Just not meant to be. Regarding game fishing - please tell me skippies have turned up off...

Re: How 'bout a comp' this weekend - 26/27th Feb 2022?

:worried:
Swell check just now shows a whole lot of ugly over the bar. Won't be able to get out until early arvo and even that's dependant on the swell. By then who knows what the winds doing. Swell doesn't look to be dropping much on Sunday either and that's looking even windier. Bugger.

Random questions: sabikis, trailers, rod floatation, etc.

Just a bunch of questions and musings. Any help appreciated. anyone tried stainless steel sabikis? Do they last? anyone made a kayak trailer they can tow with their bicycle or scooter? What are the legalities? *edit* interesting... http://www.cycletrailers.co.nz/kayak.html anyone checked to see if t...

Re: Tomorrow, 14/2/2022

Marc, watch the current, it can rip through there unless you are tucked up in one of the many bays. Kingis off the jetty. If swell is flat and forecast to stay that way and the tides are working in your favour, the Northern side of the entrance looks really fishy but I've never tried it. If no swell...

Worth a crack Marc. I wonder if a strap attached to a side handle, with two stirrups at different lengths, might help flip a yak back over and help someone aboard once sunny side up.
Keen to learn how you get on with it.

How 'bout a comp' this weekend - 26/27th Feb 2022?

Weather, at this stage, is looking good up here at least. I've got $50 for whoever gets the best ratio of fish length to line rating (highest rated line on your rod - if leader is 50lb but mainline is 25lb, then 50 is used for the math). Catching a barely legal snapper on 3lb line might win. A 1.2m ...

Re: On, in, out, off, on, off. Just shoot me now.

Rabbit, It's not so much about the $, although I don't like losing hundreds of dollars of gear because of my own mistakes, or the waste of it. It could be $10 or $10,000 and I'd still be pissed off about it. I'm the sort to paddle out of his way to collect flotsam, yet I dumped two bottles and two r...

On, in, out, off, on, off. Just shoot me now.

Dysfunction with a capital D. On: the water at 5:30am to beat the onshore winds due late morning. picked up a tiny (6") kahawai on the way out, almost put it back. Another around the heads, a bit over a foot long. Paddled in close to just behind the breakers to grab one more before the longish ...
