Re: Taps Quickie 8/10

I use Mustad jigheads most of the time, that one has a shorter shank (2 or 3/0 I think, 3/8oz) which is good for the smaller SB's I use over winter like the 3" swimming mullets. The Mustad jigheads are a bit thinner gauge than the VMC's but sharp as and good hook up rate generally. The lead seems to...

Re: looking for prowler 4.3 / 4.7 ultra

There is a guy in Paihia who bought up a whole bunch of 4.1's, 4.3's and 4.7's from Johnsons, not sure if he is on this forum but sells them on TM for very reasonable prices and offers transport to Auckland. New and ex-demo... worth a look if you are into the TM thing

Cracker day there Kerry and nice footage - those go-pro's are the way to go. Having dolphins around you like that can make the slowest fishing days the best, awesome! They can have pretty bad breath though, kind of like week-old berley

Taps Quickie 8/10

Apologies for my slack arse form of late but there has been too much dust collected on the yak for my liking due to a combo of work, crap weather and daddy darcare (love school hols not). Small window of opportunity yesterday before the wind got up so chose Tapuaetahi (aka Taps) and I thought it was...

Good stuff Destin, any excuse for a quick paddle aye - those mid-size KY are tasty too and there seem to be plenty around this winter up here in the North too.

Re: What SB rod?

A 7 foot 2 rod is a bit on the lengthy side IMO if yak fishing is what you are doing, becomes a bit tricky when you have a fish at the boat. I would also like to give K-Labs a plug though, they are really nice rods and a good price - heres one more suited to yak fishing http://www.trademe.co.nz/spor...

Re: New PB Kingfish

Theres no better scrapper than a pissed off Kingie in my books - it takes a lot more than luck to land one of them especially in the meter plus category, so congrats and all the best with the comp!

Nice fish and good on ya for trying to release - probably lip grabbers would be better for releasing, they don't like it too much when you touch the gills - bet it tasted good anyhow :y:

Re: Experience

Its a good option but not a must for catching fish. Its easy to get hooked on gadgets and rely on expensive technology too much - Just a basic FF under $200 is all you need I reckon, although an added GPS plotter would be handy (maybe next Xmas). Nice to have for getting depth, finding structure, or...

From the gin palace washing machine...

Well happy New Year team, hope the hangovers aren't too bad! On with yesterdays report ... hey its only a day late! Out of the fart sack at 6am and headed for Opito Bay to steal a few hours of uninterrupted fishing before the gin palace and fizz boat flotilla started up - she's a bit like Queen St u...

You got away lightly being friday the 13th, wish I could have joined you out there. Know the feeling in that part of town, good fish to be had but it gets expensive. I have had to give up on mr rodholder there for obvious reasons. Nice morning out though, good action right there HLD :y: !

Ain't it just bloody great how you can keep the yak loaded up on the roof, spot a gap in the weather (esp when others are still at work 8) ) and hit the water for an hour or two and come back with dinner. I'm a big believer in Seizing the moment too, great work again Destin! Can't you slide the yak...

Re: Kohi Sun Sep 1 - You win some you lose some

Great report again Destin, yeah there's nothing quite like gear failure to rip one's nightee - everyone's been there, always worse when the "big one" is the only bloody bite you get for the day, but hey on the bright side mate that's still a 'mean as feed' (as we say in Northland). I am guessing tha...
